Nearly There
« on: September 21, 2008, 04:30:07 AM »
Almost done with the old girl now, waiting for the fairing, cafe seat and side covers to come back from being painted.
Spent the last couple of days in the shed putting the bike back together, electrical and a bit of the body to go yet.

Started with this and another bike (i call the other one "pandora" because she was in boxes lol)
This one has been dubbed The Mistress

what i started with this

the PO`s "added" wiring

I was searching ebay (un-succesfully) and SWMBO surprised me with a fairing

making the cafe seat

the tail/brake light

the seat pad with a quick vinyl cover on it

this is the seat pad with a leather cover on it, leather is so much harder to fit cleanly but so much better........... wonder how that patch got there ;)

the fairing didnt have any mounting hardware so after i fabbed that this is what i had

The frame painted, charcoal hammertone

the engine almost complete, damned clear didnt cure properly hope it cures with a bit of heat when i fire her up

i couldnt resist, painted tank and seat on the frame

yesterday afternoon

this afternoon

I`ve "only" got electrical to do, clean and grease all connections, replace fuse-box with blade style unit, bosch re 57 voltage regulator and solid state voltage rectifier.
Clean and repaint the bar switches this week and redo the fairing mounting hardware, the old one didnt seem strong enough to me so i`ll make one out of some tube rather than flat stock.
Got a sign-writer lined up that does gold leaf work so i can get the name done on the ducktail, this is the japanese character for mistress

Having written all that out i think the thread title may be a little optimistic lol

Looking great!

I can't believe all that extra wiring.  That is truly rediculous.

According to the ebay vendor its off a cbr900 of a close vintage, thanks for that i`m not as pleased with the fit as i was with the vinyl but i love the fact that its leather ;)

Looking great!

Thanks mate, the PO or a PPO had no idea on what they were doing, once i had removed all the 'improved wiring" and cleaned a few connections the honda loom worked fine

very nice ,  i love the patch placement.  leather is not easy to form properly, i think you did a bang up job

the pro's use heat and steam to shape leather, i've seen it done on tv but not in person, i would love to try

Looking good!  Great job on the seat, the leather may smooth out and conform better after some use.

Gotta love a wife who surprises you with fairings ans such :)

Thanks for the comments guys, lost power night before last and only just got it back, so couldnt get too much done.
So now i`m tackling the loom, cleaning all the wires (the PO had painted EVERYTHING black lol) stripping all the old tape off it and re-taping it and then i`ll get the neww reg and rec sorted. Going to make up the mounts for them at work tomorrow.

Nice one Troppo, was the frame white by any chance when you repainted it?
All that extra wire could mean she was a copper-chopper before the PO got her, Aussie cops had the CB750Patrol....lucky beggars eh, what a job...tooling around on a cool ride and getting paid for it....my idea of heaven. ;D

Nah mate frame was black under all the coats of spray can black lol.
Got the harness done, cant believe what the PO had done to the poor old girl.....
She looks so much better now, dressed in shiny new tape and fitted to the bike.
Almost done with the electricals but i have a couple of questions for our electrical guru`s.....
heres my new rectifier

have i wired it right? Green to negative, black to positive and yellow to sideways S symbol.
and then theres my new reg, couldnt get any decent pics, this camera has a mind of its own . The honda reg has a colour code on it but the bosch unit has a +,- and an F terminal , green to - black to + and white to F. Is this right?
Another question for the gurus, i want to fit my maxi dwell plate and points before my hondaman ignition arrives, i have a couple of problems.
There was no neon tube on it when i got it, i went to jay-car and bought a new one, where do i connect it

Theres a wire cut coming off the block on the lower left, guessing thats power feed. Where do i earth it? I`ve looked and cant find any sign of an electrical connection broken or cut.
Second question on the maxi dwell, where are the condensors?
Do i have to mount them somewhere? Are they the yellow blocks in the pic? I know they are seemingly stupid questions to you guys that know these things but i want to learn because i dont know, please help if you can..............
