So, on my 500 I have a stock airbox with airbox cover, rubber seal and meshed grille from a 550. On my old 500 I had the original airbox, without a cover, although the tool tray sort of lay on top. Now, what is the function of the airbox cover, and its meshed intake vents? Will taking said cover off improve air flow? Or does it play an effect on turbulence, thereby improving airflow? Really? If the cover, as I suspect, has no function, why develop and produce it? Actually, thats a rhetorical question, obviously resources would not be spent on developing something that has no function. But what could it be? Stopping bats from nesting in my airbox?
