~  I'm on my last day of riding for the year.  Today's a small window of moderate temp (31 degrees) and completely dry weather.  The weather pattern is changing here in Maine and we're getting a slew of storms over the next couple weeks.

I'll have to put the old girl up until I can sneak out one day during January thaw -- if we have on this year.

Im with you Ben...tomorrow the cold comes in and looks like an extended period...I hit some ice yesterday morning coming to work so Ill take that as a sign 

Of course should the chance arise Ill be getting out...

The driveway at work is the worst part of my commute.  Well paved of course, but not well drained.  You come off the main road, go 100 yards and make a right turn to go to the parking lot.  That right turn this morning was all ice, as the water drains down a long slope right to that spot.

I slowed to 2 mph put both feet out running on top of the ice took the corner as straight and gentle as possible and came out upright.

It would really piss me off to dump right in front of the office.  Some folks here think I'm nuts and that would confirm it for them...

Glad you are ok, that probably got the ol heart going. Seriously though, that is a concern I have. Once it starts getting wet here in Utah, I'll have to put her up for a month or two.

Some folks here think I'm nuts and that would confirm it for them...

I for one haven't made it all that far in life being sane. I think a little guided insanity is a good thing  That being said, laying my bike down because I didn't heed the signs of black ice isn't the kind of sanity I want to go for.

Tuesday was a icy, but it saved me from a big speeding ticket!

I drive to work every day the same road. It's pretty early in the morning, so i can go pretty fast without all the traffic. So tuesday I was coming off the higway, and I notice it's slippery so I take it really easy. The road where I normally do 55mph, i was now doing about half that, wich is the speedlimit also.

I turn into my works parking lot, lots of ice. I hit the trottle and slip the clutch to whip the bike around on the ice to impress my co_workers a bit (childish, I know).
When it's turned, I stare right into a policecar that had been following me. I don't have mirrors, so I didn't even see him.
He tells me he heard neighbours complaints that i'm always speeding, but obviously it was too slippery to go fast today so i got lucky. He said he'll be watching me though, so I have to take it easy now.

Nice one Ieism and I can relate.

I ride the same road every day as well and continually see police cars pulling other car drivers over...Ive escaped so far as Im not really a model driver  ...last night going home there was some traffic and I was trying to get around some cars....I heard the wail of a siren behind me very briefly...the unmarked police car was giving me a warning to watch myself  .....I pulled over into the right hand lane and slowed down (did not stop) and checked my mirror and let the cop go past....when we came to a stop light I stopped next to him and I said "sorry" for whatever it was I had done wrong  ....clearly he had let me off for something....he said something like "if you keep on driving like that you`ll end up a hood ornament!"....

Time to put the bike away after this week....ride safely!

It's hard to imagine Adny with a big ass.

I believe all cops are trained to assume the general public is inept.  And, I'm sure they see enough "WTF?" to reinforce it.  Being "defenders of the peace", they also tend to be pretty self righteous, too.
They also believe that "speed kills" (apparently not applicable to police officers, though), even though the pedestrian they whiz by who is standing on the corner is traveling up to 1037.5646 MPH, depending on the latitude (and relative to the center of the earth).  And, this adds or subtracts to the earth's velocity of 66,660 miles per hour (107278.87 km/h) as it travels around the sun.  Further, our sun is moving at about 370 km/second with respect to the universal expansion.

I asked the officer at what speed we can expect to be killed?.  All he said was, "sign here".

I tried a very similar argument one time on a cop TT. I was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign. I went into a long diatribe about how none of us every really stop (relatively speaking blah blah blah rotation of the earth blah blah blah)....well he takes out his night stick and starts whacking me on the head! He then turns to me and says would you like me to slow down? or would you like me to stop???

Man I couldn't even try talking him down, he stated to me that he hit me three times with radar and all three times it hit as 80 in a 65, so i payed the 250 bucks and went on...... Didn't even see him hiding on an on ramp to I-35 north at front street here in KC......

That was your mistake, speed isn't the killer in any accident. It's the sudden stop at the end that'll do it to you every time
