The polishing?

Just remove part, strip the clear coat with paint stripper, wetsand until fingers bleed, polish on the buffing wheel.

Hey johnny- just wanna tell you how much i appreciate you posting all this. I just got my 77 750k and as my first bike i have huge ambitions and didn't know really where to start. After seeing this I have a much better idea of what I am doing and what I want to do. Really glad I found this site and especially glad I found your postings. Great build, great pics and great job explaining the steps you took. Thanks.

I don't know if you mentioned it yet or not (or at least I couldn't find it) but where did you get your sidecover and tank emblems? Are they chrome or white?

The side cover emblems are the stock emblems from the K7. The tank emblems might be from a Goldwing or Hondamatic. But I painted them black, then used silver model paint on the letters, then clear coated it. Turned out okay. Im looking to put something different on this winter for a little more pop.

Isn't it weird how a run-down, industrial background REALLY makes Cafe bike just pop in a picture?

Hi There ... i noticed you added fork gaitors... was there anything special you needed to do to put them on? are they different from the 1969-76 style gaitors?

I cut the stock fender off about 6" and used the frame tail holes and drilled holes into the fender and mounted it. The fender is basically "wedged between the frame and the taillight mounting bolts. Feels rock solid and it all went easier than I thought it would and am happy how it looks. Glad to keep the original rolled edges on the fender. Sometime this year, I'll get the 11.5" rear shocks to lower it and make it look even better by filling in that gap between the tire and the fender.
