Note the raised pad on the bottom of pic#2..it has a HM logo on it, so does the head.

If I have seen one of these before, I certainly dont remember it...

By the numbers it looks like a '78K motor.

Hey 1080,
that's in the exact same spot and has the same raised panel as my 78 750K.

I like to find out when they started the new location. I know my 78k that I have owned from new is parallel to starter. It was built in 09/77. Can those who have the 90 degree serial numbered blocks post their manufactured dates. Please indicate K of F models. Maybe we can get a rough idea when the change occured.

The numbers on mine tell me it is a 76 F engine

I'll have to get the date off of his bike for you.

Thanks Jakoba. 01/78 so far the earliest.

Grumpol, yours is what is common since 1969 (parallel to starter).

MrZxp, got a frame with a manufacture date for that F motor.

I need more. Earlier to Jakoba, or later that year to see if they remain that way, or any with parallel with later dates.

One thing to note is the bike history should be known.

Sorry, but this bike never had a frame tag when I got it, I guess a PO removed it (or it never had one), so no idea on year of manufacture.... :-\

The issue is clouded in my case anyhow as my F is a "G" frame, not very common, so who knows when it was made...!

Nice 78k russouno.
Got a Manufacture date?
Earlier than Jakoba, but parallel like my 78. Must be a _ _ /77 date?

I was just chatting with Mossy21 and both his bikes have the same engine serial number position...opposite to mine. :o :o

One bike is a 9/77 and the other is an 8/77.

He also mentioned that anything from 6/77 on,  is considered a 78. ;) ;)

cheers

Maybe be completely useless information as I don't have a frame with a date of manufacture, but here is the engine # 3020176 clearly from a 78K.

Yes Eldar, can you go and look? 12/77 date is important.

I wonder if there is any 12/77 with 90 degree number tag?
