Topic: OK heres my first post here. lets see how smart you guys are.

I learned that the 750 alternator needs power for the electromagnets to make power.
I did not know that. Usefull. I assumed that since the 350 and 450 had a permanent magnet.....
It might work if there were enough capacitors to hold juice for a while like on some guys Triumph. How long? Usefull.
Someone may have used a cb350 alternator back in the day. Usefull.

Now back to business. Does anybody know if a cb350 alternator or a cb450 alternator might work? Is the taper on the crank the same? Ive got about 5 450 engines in my shop so....I think it might work. If my memory serves me correct a 450 sparks on every rotation so every other spark is waisted. They will run with a capacitor for sure and a cb350 will run without one for sure. I dont know much about the 750. Do they spark at only when they need to? Remember the only extra power i need is for the headlight, tach, and LED taillight. thats it.

Stupid useless trolls?? Wow dude nice manners! I ALWAYS like to introduce myself by trying to piss on all of the other forum members. It is just good etiquette to not use a search function or try to do any research....I mean why not try to question people's inteligence in an effort to limit the actual work I may need to do to research something. 

I am guessing this type of posting and responding will get you lots of help...

I just wanted to check out the type of people who hang out here.
A few of you were great. (how many times do i have to write this?) Good information.  want to give real help. The buddy backslapin stuff isnt what most people want in tech forum. Just ask. Go to the general banter area if you want to fluff one another.

Apparently some of you only cant comprehend what is written. I wrote that i appreciated the guys with good information. If i could go to a site where those guys that know motorcycles were on besides this one Id go.....Any recomendations? There has to be a cb750 site where the people know motorcycles and have the knowhow to make or build something that doesnt yet exist with period parts.

Reread all the posts and dont put words into my mouth or read something that wasnt written.

Oh, but having their intelligence challenged in the subject title and being told in a first post by a brand new member what they can and cannot say when offering their free help is what people DO  want?

You have a lot to learn about internet forum interaction.  This is by far the most civil and helpful motorcycle forum I've ever seen, and I'm sure most members here would agree, but you can't start off the way you did and expect to be welcomed with open arms.  

Change your attitude and you have a lot to gain by being a member here.

If you ever have a problem that isn't explained by the manual, this is the only place you're going to find the answer.  We know these bikes inside and out, and many have forgotten more about them than most will ever know. 

So, if you want to try this all again, perhaps with a little less hubris, I'm sure we would welcome you into the community.

Let me put it this way mate... The people you call trolls have helped me and are more than willing to help. To get respect you have to give it. Rule of thumb is to start with the search function, try a few different terms and use both the box on the upper right and the one on the left (google). When you give up and decide to make a thread, show some respect, don't be a troll yourself and aim to start a flame war with rules and a rude introduction. You can start by simply presenting the facts and your question, pictures if applicable and any information that will be helpful for us to help you. Don't lay ground rules, you asked for what you got right off the bat with your attitude and tone. Had you simply posed it as a question and not questioned our intelligence you would have gotten a much better response. No s%$& there's comradery here, it's an established community, that explains 100% of the "backslapping".

So get off your high horse mate, grab a beer and CHILL for f*&#@$ sake. Just give us a straight question without the bull and you'll be much better off. End of story, close the damn thread somebody.

I really dont understand. "Lets see how smart you guys are." This is insulting? Whats wrong with a challenge? A question is challanging a persons intelligence.Yes. Should i ask a question everyone knows the answer to so they wont be insulted and have their feelings hurt? I like challenges, answers and recomendations. Do you think i would try to make my 750 run without a battery if i didnt like a challenge? I was asking a question and was hoping the people who dont know anything about 750 alternators or have suggestions would stand back and learn with me. Were all the posts offering free help? Are none trolling? Did i not express my thanks for the good information that was given in the same post that bashed the trolls?

In my experience with cb550, everything quits when you disconnect the battery at idle.  I'm pretty sure (but I cannot swear) I've disconnected the battery at higher RPM and it kept running until the revs dropped down, then it just died.  I'm unable to reproduce that experiment at the moment, but I'm sure you are capable of doing this yourself.

Also, there's no way in hell the bike will start with even a low battery, let alone no battery.  Not by kicking, not by bump-starting, nothing.  Mind you, I had already converted to electronic ignition, which I understand does not work at all when voltage is low.  When I had points, it was much easier to bump-start when battery was low.

Yes, I could see a capacitor-driven system storing energy for periods where the alternator could not produce any.  However, why not just use a battery at that point?  Battery would serve as a capacitor.
