350F / Jardine 4-2 / Need Help
« on: May 28, 2009, 04:49:28 PM »
Two questions before I cut off my old mufflers to put these on:

1. Do they require re-jetting?
2. How do I attach the mufflers to the headers? They'll definitely "slip on" over the stock headers, but like... do I need to glue them or clamp them?

Thanks!

Oh wait, there's a third questioN:

3. I was just going to hacksaw the old mufflers off... there isn't any special cutting instructions, is there?

Thanks again!

I have mufflers similar to those...sept off a 550. I'm running stock jets.

Really you'll have to run it and check the plugs. I don't expect you'll have to rejet.

Is there a doughnut for the pipes?

Kinda an asbestos looking gasket?

I'd hold the new mufflers up to the pipes and make sure you cut them in the right place.

I have the headers that came with, but not on, the new-to-me slip-ons, so I plan on just measuring up to those to determine where to make the cuts.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about when you say  "doughnut for the pipes... kinda an asbestos looking gasket", so I'm going to say "no", unless it might actually be in the inlets of the slip-ons?

Thanks,
Adam

Some come with a gasket type thing....I believe Honda called it an Exhaust packing.

Anyways....If its a tight fit I wouldn't sweat the clamping...

Mine on the 350F are not clamped and they haven't leaked or failed.

They do protrude up the muffler a ways..

some are welded
some are clamped
some are just slipped on
never seen any glued   ;)
were you thinking elmers?   ;D

Ha! Well, I wasn't really thinking of glue as much as I was some sort of thick hondabond-esque sealant.

// - The silencers will slip over, but I can't imagine just that making an air-tight seal.
// - I can't find any information about a gasket that would go in there
// - If I clamp, I should probably cut some slits like the following picture, yes?

Thanks!

i would make a cut on the inside and leave the outside solid... just for looks
if they fit snug... you'll only need the one cut.

Good call, thanks for the help.

I'm really going to miss the look of my OEM 4-4, but I'm excited to hear these scream.

They do look great though. I just prefer the 4-4 look.

So you just have yours slipped on, eh? Nothing more?
