Would rear drum breaks on a cb550 make any noise....when the bike is in motion but the brakes are not being applied?

No. What kind of sound? Is your model equipped with a brake wear indicator? If it doesn't sound like iron on iron, why not experiment a little with the adjustment?

Its not a squeel, like the front brakes usually make on these bikes.

Only hear it when in motion.  Light scrape sound from the back area of the bike.  Not very loud.  Not a constant scrape sound. Sound gets faster or slower depending on bike speed.

Not the shocks, probably not the chain, not the tire, not the swing arm.  Think it would have to be the brake.

HAs it been sitting for a while? Gunk build up is now sluicing around with the brake shoes.

Back off the adjuster as much as is safe and see the difference.

In any event, I vote for simple dirty build up of brake shoe dust and gunk. Disassemble and while standing outside, blow it out (hub and backing plate) with air. Do not do it inside. Maybe wear a dust mask.

Wipe the drum off with alcohol or such. Don't touch the shoes with anything, fingers especially.

Just an FYI: I've never seen a Honda MC shoe wear down to the shoe. Just too much material on them. So that's not likely.

Could be bearings too.

Could be a bearing or a brake.

Put the bike on the center stand and slowly rotate the rear wheel, a notchy feel indicates a bearing. brake drage will not have the notch feel....

Usually, most of the time.

Are you sure it's not the chain?
