Again, what is happening that you can not leave your gas petcock on. Where is the gas going and why? If a float sticks, you will get some gas out of the overflow tube, but what else is happening? Yea, I could make you some decals, but I would rather see you fix the problem....and it's not remembering to turn off the gas.

with a full tank of gas theres enough pressure to overcome the needle/seat and i got some engine flooding last night, i loosened the drain plug enough to get a few drops of oil to see if any gas had gotten into it and it had, same thing with the airbox, fuel everywhere. these are freshly built carbs with honda carb kits

It really sounds like you need to pull them off again and fix things. there should be NO way that the pressure from a FULL tank of gas would overcome the float valve and even if it did, how is the gas getting into the case? overflow tube blocked? You got something messed up in the rebuild and you should look into getting it fixed. yea, turn off the gas until then.

I got one that leaks a bit after an hour or so.. does not seem to raise oil level..

I always turn the gas off or try to.

And no, I will not fix it, sooner put on the Webers, and get rid of the airbox..

Bucky if you want to find the culprit, pop your drain hoses off and put paint can tops under to see which one leaks..

Them stickers, always sold at big bike events.

In relation to the problems with leaving the petcock turned on, I've heard of CBXs getting bent rods because of the gas leakng into a cylinder and causing a rod to bend, trying to compress the gas in the cylinder. :o Just seems like the thing should always be turned off, when not in use. ;)

Good luck on finding the sticker though. ;)

I mean if you really want a sticker, I can do that for you. Just thought that you should really try to cure the problem, not put a bandaid on it......

I remember that sticker a little differently. It said: "Turn the gas ON stupid" and it was used by racers.

Many was the time a racebike was sitting in the pits with the gas turned off. The racer would start it, get gridded, and then stall as the gas was still turned off.

Yea, that has happened to me a few times on the street too.  Now I only turn it off if i am going to park it over night or if I am away from the bike for any extended period.  I have no problem with leakage.

Oh come on- turning off the gas fixes the problem if the bike runs fine otherwise.   I had a BMW that if I didn't turn the gas off overnight, I had to take the plugs out and change the oil.  That system worked for 20 years just fine.

That's absolutley right. It is SOP to turn off the gas on old manual on/off petcocks. Doesn't mean anything is wrong. That's what we had to do per the manual. My old triumph was that way and all early Hondas until the vacuum controlled petcock came along.

Which by the way changes nothing. Its still a "turn off the gas stupid" ritual, its just done by the bike rather than the operator.

Can't agree entirely. He may have something wrong for sure and should check. But even on a perfect bike the gas should always be turned off if to sit for a long period, more than several hours. It was usually in the owners manual.

I've seen many bikes in my shop days with gas in the oil. It leaks past the floats, into the intakes and down past the pistons. Absolutly.

We would dump the oil and if more than the expected amount came out, we'd take the drain pan out into the back lot and drop a match into it. Good for a little "poof".

Here's a good one, scroll down to Fuel System

http://www.timberwoof.com/motorcycle/faq/maintaining.html

Even if the float valves are perfect, new etc. they may stick momentarily or longer, especially if parked on sidestand. And then never again. But once is enough.

So turning it off is SOP.

Even with rebuilt carbs these bikes can be a little pissy, you just have to remember to turn it to off.
