cb550 Handlebar Clamp?
« on: February 26, 2011, 05:48:54 PM »
I am wanting to ditch the idot lights as they don't go with my theme. Seeing how this is my first motorcycle, what do you use for a top clamp on the handlebar? I am also wanting clubmans but don't know what throttle grips to use. Thanks for the help.

Any help is much appreciated. I have already tried searching and only came up with people grinding the triple trees which i don't want to do.

Just take your factory top clamp to a bike salvage and match up the spacing of the bolt holes with a pair of clamps without the idiot light panel. You could also post a "parts wanted" thread here on the forum, someone will probably have a pair that would work for you.

Don't know what you have but if it has the lights as part of the clamp it's probably 76 or earlier. I know my 77 550 came with two individual bar clamps and the lights were on this ugly triangle thing which fit between the gauges. I swapped in one of the old clamp style light clusters and it fit and wired straight in.

part number 23 is what you need. Get them from the wreckers or in the want-ads.

As for the throttle, just make sure you use a dual cable throttle of whatever kind to avoid the runaway/can't shut the carbs potential difficulty.
