Dunstal clip ons... WTF...???
« on: April 24, 2006, 12:29:22 AM »
g'day all, saw this ebay auction, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DUNSTALL-GENUINE-CLIP-ONS-CB-750-SOHC_W0QQitemZ8059459406QQcategoryZ10460QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and remembered that i have a set of these.... can anyone tell me how these are ment to fit?.... i got mine in the original box and have the steering stops and all, but if i mount these the way the instructions tell me, the bars will be that close to the tank i couldnt turn even if i wanted too... they look to mount using the top tripple clamp pinch bolt, and the top nut of the forks.... my question is, are the pinch bolt positions on the different year models at different positions, ie towards the front or back of the tripple, or were these clip ons sposed to be this close?.... help please.... BTW i have an F!, and these were for a k2-k5.... this is why i a thinking the pinch bolt positions are at different points.... peace

I just bought a set of clip-ons as well , but hey mount differently then yours do.
Mine just slide over the tubes and clamp down.
I plan to install them tonite, and will see how pissed I get  ;D

I bought Dunstall clip-ons and rear sets for my 500 back in '76 coz the dealer wanted to get rid of them.  I never fitted them for exactly that reason and ended up buying ace bars instead (avatar).  Also, I never could get the rear sets to fit (or work).

They look like the ones where you remove fork top nuts and use nuts to hold bars in place. Need to have the side clamp bolt on the pinch bolt, pretty much a fixed position.
Easy to fit though

just went and compared the top clamps from a k6 and an f2. the f has about 1/2" less offset from the stering stem, bringing the tubes closer to the tank in that way. also, the pinch bolts are in about the same position, but the angle of the cut is different. the k is anged about 15 degrees more forward than the f. which would make the bars come back even more with the lesser angle of the f clamp.

i dont know if these two differences add up to enough extra clearance to make it work, but that is all i could see.

I had a set that looked similar (not sure if they are the same or not) but they used the fork clamp pinch bolt on the top yoke to hold them in place.

yep te same as these... but as mentioned if the f's had there top clamp pinch bolt 1/2 inch closer to the back then that would explain why i cant fit them to my top triple clamp.... well if that is the case... could u use a k top triple with the f's bottom clamp?, do the match?..peace
