So picked up this bike for a"good price" a so no matter what I've got on my hands..I'm content with my purchase. All I needed off it were the carbs and some bolts and other little bits to complete mine. An added bonus was the thing actually turns over and revs!? off the kick start!? really?!

It started to get stranger as I started taking it apart...


I'll leave out the cheesy chopper bits from these photos..I'll post them in the for sale section. These are just  "points of interest".

Tank is a wreck...looks to be an old one...an old "wrinkled" one...too bad its dented I guess.



Engine has a weird serial number  1111351  I looked Everywhere for this...can't place the year...maybe a 71?

Japanese 71 with the speed limit light.

 Carb guages are an accessory from same folks that built deepsump oil pans.

 No deal on the 1's , just the serial number that came out that day.
 Looks like it might be a Hooker 4-2 from what I can see.. if they have 2 bolt removable reverse cone tips then they are for sure..

So my guess on it being a '71 was right!  I knew the earlier models were all 100...,but then the serial numbers seemed to skip to 200... so I couldn't tell.
As for the cones...Looks to be what's left of cones under neath were badly worn down or rusted...headers are pretty nasty too,..think its worth the trouble to replace the cones and use them temporarily or just ditch them?

Carb gauges eh?  Do they serve any useful purpose or should I just remove them? Best guess is they're old...and maybe not functioning. 
My dad was thinking of making a rigid bobber or something out of it..I just want the carbs off it and the bolts I need...

I could probably make a decent stocker out of it...its not in THAT bad a shape, but I'm more interested in finishing mine.

So I guess guess next question is: Sell it for parts or build another bike...

...or keep what I can as "spares"

I guess I'll let my dad do what he wants with it  I kinda think he'll end up dissecting it for parts too...

IF you can register it, I'd say make a nice stocker out of it.  Kinda cool to have such an old JDM bike in the states.  2 cents inserted.

Well, I've decided One bike is enough for now and I only bought it to get some parts off so the rest is going up for sale.

I'll be posting it on the for sale section and craigslist soon.

Yeah mate, it's a Japanese market K1, built in (probably) mid to late 1971. The Stewart Warner oil pressure gauge is nice, as is the Bill Bowman vacuum gauge. I've got a NOS one in a box somewhere that I bought a few years ago, my mate Davey has had one on his K2 for the last 30-odd years, and I thought it was one of the coolest looking accessories I'd ever seen on a CB750.

Not as good as 4 separate gauges of course, but still a usefull tool, and you can just about gaurantee that you'll be the only kid on your block with one. Why do you think it's got a wrinkle tank on it? Tip the tank upside down and shoot a pic and post it, and I'll tell you if it is, even with a dent in it, it'll still go for several hundred bucks on EBay if it doesn't have too many holes in it.  Bike is worth more in one pirce than parted out. I think early carbs have a different number on them, plus they changedat arorind 72,***ish.
 Lots of carbs out there.. cheap.. why kill a chance to see this cool early model Japan marhet no less.. from seeing the road again..
 Sit on it a week or two, sure a decent offer will come your way.. maybe even cash AND the parts both of you need....

The bottom photo is a carb sync tool. You open each knob one at a time and record the readings and even them out by adjusting the air pilot screw. Very good tool.

Don't let people rip you off dude......You really have some great parts there.It all just boils down to if you want to save all those cool parts or sell them to someone that will do whats right with them. Do your homework!!!!................

You say "chezzy" chopper parts but the chopper community has helped all the CB750 owners by developing many useful cb750 parts,modifications and simplifications of cb 750's.  May of those parts are used by CB750 cafe bikes and street stock bikes.

They were the original creative people. The younger generation has yet to contribute any creative parts.

Lol this is BS...for example just look at Frankenstuff - a young guy making parts for these bikes.....Or are you one of these guys who always likes to blame it on the young...plenty of young guys doing creative stuff.

+ 1 Andy!!!.....We have all kinds of cool parts out there available for our bikes .............it's kinda like a small block Chevy....in demand and not goin' away anytime soon!!!!

I dont know if its fair to say that the younger people have not added any creative parts....
maybe not gauges, but they have "tweaked" alot of parts and re made them from new materials. 
Look at some of the stuff benjie has made...
Tanks seats.  Ill admit that a lot of it seems to be style things but thats more based on the fact that these are solid bikes that have had the kinks worked out years ago.

Ha ha, very true Greg, awful sandcast "pot metal" pieces, or poorly chromed steel parts, but because I was there "back in the day", I've still got a soft spot for that stuff, one day I'll build the cheesiest 70's era CB750 chopper, just to remind me of my halcyon days!

I'm keeping most of it. Will try to recycle what I can on my current build. Even using a few "cheesy" chopper bits.   Lol for fks sake... I like a chopper as much as the next guy, but I know cheese bat style question and epic failures in the attempt when I see it. This was one such bike. I' d say it was on par with someone crazy going a shtload of fiberglass to an AMC Kremlin to make it look like a Ferrari Testarosa.

...Oh and unless some drives up and dumps a wad of fad in my hands...I'm gonna hold onto some bits to play with for a while. I've already promised a few small pieces to some folks, but the majority is still there.

I would like your "speed limit" parts.  I have this japanese version I'm restoring and would love your red speed limit lamp in your upper triple tree and whatever wiring and components that go with it. You name the price.

What's interesting is that Yamaya sells the little label that goes over the bulb and they sell a upper triple with a hole in it as well but that's it.

I think there were quite a few Japanese bikes that made it over here. They were 71s and you could get a 71 in Polynesian blue metallic as well.  My frame is also the weird 1111 VIN and there was no "US" frame number label on the other side of the neck.

That OHC instead of SOHC on the cover is also really cool.

Anyway let me know.
