When i sold "Big Blue" i had cah burning a hole in my pocket. So i bought this little 175. I always tell my wife when i buy a bike that it is for her. Well this time it actually is. She is small and even has a hard time kicking over the 125 so the 175 is perfect. Still small and an electric start.

Pile of crap when i got it but it ran.
Tracked down a
seat,
tank,
exhaust,
front brake,
handlebars and switches,
air filters,
wire harness,
ign switch,
and new gauges so far.
Still need side covers and then maintenance parts.

Looking forward to following this build. I am building a cl175 for my 5 foot tall GF to ride. The build thread is below yours, let me know what you think as this is my 1st solo build.

They are nice solid machines & remind me of a scaled down version of my CB350K4.

This one is such a pain. The more i dig in, the more parts i need. This bike was a serious pile of crap. I replaced the whole wire harness, handlebars and switches and got it fired up but now i need to get the mufflers on the bike. Stay tuned this one will not be a fast build but I think i want it to look like a brat style triumph if i can manage that. Thanks for watching.

Yes...I'll definitely stay tuned;I like how you use the word "was" a pile of crap....that's past tense,because NOW she's getting the care that it has always needed.I have a big problem when a bike comes to me that has been "piece-mealed" between lot's of PO's;I enjoy finally "doing the machine right" when I get the opportunity to "liberate" it from the PO...it usually takes a lot of TLC & $ to bring it back to spec. I just have to convince myself to KEEP IT at that point so that I can enjoy my fine restoration project for many years to come.

Well i have been plugging away at the 175. Got the front brake switched out. The shocks on the bike are to long so I think the chain is going to rub the swing arm. Things i need are a side kickstand and spring and rear fender. I picked up 2 more bikes the other day 1 is a pretty thrashed SL175. Has a few good parts and i also picked up a 78 sears sr124. Its in bad shape. Pretty cool bikes. They were Gilera bikes.

I have the front and rear fender from my cl175 if you are interested. we will not be using them and they are in great shape.

Nope. I'm so upside downon my house I'll be here awhile. But that's ok. It keeps my hobby from getting out of control.

Have you considered hanging a few of those 200lb. bikes from the rafters in your shop;you could raise and lower them as needed & they'd be out of the weather.

Got the bike out and tried to ride it for the first time. It was reving ok but when i tried to ride it I could tell only one side was working. So i pulled the plugs. 1 side was really black. Pulled the carbs off and cleaned them up. When i pulled the float needle jet this is what i found.

Lots of sand! I blew it all out so i hope the bike runs better now.

Wnet around the block and it ran fine now. Started to investigate the noisy starter and opened a can of worms. Cant get the rotor bolt off, almost every bolt on the motor is half stripped. Looks like i will be drilling some of them out.

It's good that you were the one that took over from where the other "PO's" left off;they didn't have much Restoration in mind when they owned it.Have you ever used the threaded inserts that are all one piece? a brand I've used before are Timesert and they are Excellent...much better than a Helicoil & a very strong "permanent" type of thread repair kit;you WON'T be disappointed

w/ their quality.

Its not the thread that is striped but the head. They rounded out most of the phillips. Once i drill the head off i can usually put vicegrips on it and thread it out. Ill replace all the bolts with ss allen bolts

digging into my CB175. It was making a funny noise like it was free spinning sometimes when i used the starter. So i pulled it appart and found a few teeth chipped off on the starter clutch as well as the tip of one of the spring sleves was worn through. I bought a new setup off ebay but i was wondering what could have caused this so i can prevent it next time.

We had a CB and SL175 in our family for several years in the early 80's. The SL was mine and the CB my dad's. He actually held on to his until 2004 or 2005 when he finally sold his house.

Got the rotor on the bike and it fires up and run pretty good. I dont like the CB frame so i bought and registered a SL175 that has a frozen motor. Im going to swap all the parts that i have collected onto that frame. Its going to be a brat style bike.
