It has been a while since I have worked on my bike with moving and all.
Going to the powdercoater this week.

Is there a list of things I should focus on getting powdercoated?

Yah, be sure they do not mess up the ID tag on the neck of the frame. A member here just had it done and the powdercoater blasted right over the tag.

Thanks for the tip.  That was one of the first things I did on this project was take the tag off.  Its in a zip-lock in the safe.

I was contemplating the same issue and did locate this post about removing the VIN. I think this is the route I'm going to take now that I know the screws that are used to hold the vin tag on.

Some thoughts on areas to protect...if you have the steering head bearings out get them to tape off the seats for the bearings.

Also, the shock mounts, any threaded holes have to be plugged, any threaded fasteners sticking out have to be capped.

Unless you like re-tapping and cleaning up stuff with aviation paint stripper later.

Most Good powdercoat shops use rubber plugs to keep the adhesion during the spray process to not get into areas you do not want the coat to get into such as the engine mounts, bearing cups etc,I used blue masking tape and marked where they should plug.

I agree with d3buttz; a good powder coating place will ask questions and work with you to get the finish you want. I would also ask to see their samples of colors. You'd be surprised how many shades of black is available.

Just dropped off the frame, swing arm, bunch of brackets.  This guy seems to know what he's doing.  He was calling out parts out of my box of goodies before the lid was even open.

I asked them about plugs and protecting the areas necessary and he knew exactly what I was talking about.

Good point.  Only one I have of the frame at the powder-coater.

Said 5 to 10 business days. 

After talking to them today I am going to take a couple more pieces to them on Tuesday.  I may not use the parts but at least if I decide to I will have them done.

The other advantage of sending all the parts and maybe some extras at the same time is you'll be assured the shade of color will be the same. I've heard of cases where parts were coated on different days/runs and the colors were off a little.

I am on the fence when it comes to the rear brake lever and kick starter. I am tempted to get these gloss black at the same time but part of me wants to get them rechromed.
