Im currently trying to get in running order my buddys 1986 500 Shadow. It had set for about a year and had to clean the tank out. Tried getting the carbs off with no luck, so I tried filling the fuel line with carb cleaner and used the starter to pull it into the carbs.
After about a week of doing this I finally got it running. I've also tried the old trick of covering the carb throat while the engine is running to try and clear them. I think that really helped alot but it still has the off idle hesitation. It bogs down and tries to die, then it catches and revs up. If I let off the throttle a little it will rev up. I have noticed that the hesitation isnt as bad or nonexistent with the choke on.
I know it would help alot to get the carbs off and do a rebuild/clean on them but with not being able to get them off.......
I dont want to invest in a manual and he doesnt either because he is gonna sell it after it is running decent.
I installed 4 new plugs gapped at .035. The old ones looked okay........were a light tan/brown.
Hoping there is an adjustment I can try before I take the ball peen to them?
