This may clear it up or make it worse. A true original Yoshimura pipe or Yoshi replica will not allow for filter removal or the use of the centerstand. On a racer these are throwaway issues. The pipe collects its headers dead center in front of the engine to allow for a close fitting racing fairing, which is a higher priority than filter removal.

On a Yoshi replica, well its going to be case by case as to how close it adheres to the original. Most "replicas" go on bikes without fairings and so splay the pipes enough to remove the filter. It would behoove someone buying a "replica" to find out how much of a true replica it really is.

Don't know about the center stand.

OCICBW, but I don't think so.

MCRider,

Do you think this is just a matter of performance vs convince?  Is that a a good way to look at things.  Top performance may mean sacrificing some convince.  It may not be too big of a deal as 754 said some headers can only take a few minutes to drop.  What are your thoughts on this?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. I'd say it is just that. performance vs convenience. It's a good way to look at things if you're end user wants it. A racer will put up with it. The general population will not. RC Engineering built pipes that were as good performers, but would not allow a close fitting fairing and would allow removal of the filter housing and drain plug and use of the centerstand. RC sold quite a few more pipes than Yoshimura could dream of. Plus the Yoshi pipe wasn't anywhere near street legal soundwise.

The needs of the end user drives the design. Or the needs of the merchant to sell product drives the design. Nothing new here.

I am fine with the price of the pipe, just not the volume.  When a cop waves at me, i want it to be in recognition of the bike, not him wanting to pull me over and give me a ticket.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I am sorry everyone I made a big mistake and was not paying attention.
I bought the 4 into 2 into 1 from Cycle -X NOT the header from Carpy.

I think they are both good but the one from Cycle -X had more ground clearance.

Lucky,
Have you got the Cycle -X pipe mounted yet?  Would love to know how it fit up and your opinions on the pipe overall.
Thanks,
Chris

I sold mine, could not get it to seal for the life of me.I and 2 other motorcyclist/mechanics,twisted,tightened,gaskets(new,double up as well)Got it on but just couldnt tune it.I love the pipe and wish it worked.I am looking for another 4-1 for my bike.It currently has the original 4-4,which it runs great by the way.
its better to regret something you have done, than something you havent.Except playing with explosives.

That's a bummer!  Thanks for the opinions.  I should have kept the original header (F bike) and just fitted a slip on but I gave it away.  Hindsight kicks my butt once again!

So add 4 exhaust gaskets every oil change, the hassle of digging them out of the ports and removing the exhaust system spells poor R&D. Dumb-assed, glad there are other selections.

rt

Why replace the gaskets with every oil change.? {they are cheap anyway} Why not use the smaller spin on filters, should allow the pipe to remain on. Had a few Yoshi pipes over the years, they come on and off easily, its not rocket science......
