Ride report:

I carried GZ from Breaux Bridge to Walker, LA for a total of 88.2 miles after hitting the back roads and taking a detour through Port Vincent to visit Fred's River Bar.

I am glad to report that the rain held off and the overcast made for a nice cool ride, however the winds were whipping.

Also, to prevent GZ from spreading rumors about crazy women drivers, I stayed in the slow lane and drafted behind an 18 wheeler for the majority of the interstate ride.

No mechanical issues to report.  Looking forward to the ride to McComb, MS, but will probably bring GZ to take pictures in downtown Baton Rouge near the Mississippi River Bridge before he is due to arrive in McComb.

You guys might appreciate that GZ is enjoying a spa day and that he got the road grime and grease off from him:

Got his hair and nails done I suppose.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

GZ says “good bye” to Texas and arrives safely in Louisiana on Sunday April 15, on schedule. A windy, partly cloudy, dry and mild ride via the Sabine Pass and Hwy. 82, following the Louisiana Gulf Coast. 278 miles, 6 AM departure and 2 PM arrival, it was a great ride.

I picked up GZ Friday night at Chris and Robyn's BLIP workshop just south of downtown Houston. Cool folks, cool bikes, food and refreshments. Thanks for the wonderful evening Chris and Robyn.

Saturday GZ attends the 2012 Spring Vintage Motorcycle Kick Off at the Airline Motorcycle Center co-hosted by David Carpenter of Bikesnob.com  More food and refreshments and some wonderfully restored vintage bikes. GZ likes. A really cool motorcycle repair/restoration shop too.

I depart my home Sunday while still dark and stop for my first trip photo. I want to show the folks in Louisiana that we have gators too. Stopping at the alligator capital of Texas in Anahuac seems like the right place to make that point.

Crossing the Sabine River into Louisiana we receive a warm “Bienvenue” and the usual warnings about “no wheelies” on the beach. Oh darn.

More to follow...

Final report....

Following very close to the coast line, GZ demands that he be allowed to cool his heels in the Gulf. And so he does. It's all about GZ.

Ferry crossings, friendly attendants, numerous (and slow) draw bridges, Yamaha Tenere
dual sport riders all add to the fun and adventure along the way. GZ basks in the attention.

And then, there's Hope. Waiting for us patiently as we pull into our agreed upon rendezvous, with her uber cool '75 CB550. We complete our official duties; log book, pins and GZ's hand off and then it's time for lunch. A serious Cajun lunch at Crazy 'Bout Crawfish in Breaux Bridge. Oh yeah, this is the REAL deal. GZ likes crawfish. Thanks for that recommendation Hope!

And so, Texas says “goodbye” to GZ. You're being left in more than capable hands with Hope.
“Vaya con Dios” from all of your Texas buds.
