I am glad you made of back OK.  I wish I would have had more time to ride with you. Thank you for taking on the whole state of MM alone!

Justin, Glad to read you made it home without a hitch!  Those SOHC4s are fabulous machines. Was a pleasure meeting you. Hope to see you again next year! Congrats on the Iron Ass membership...see the Relay thread on the topic.

We are going to get a hill country ride together sometime.  You can truck the bike down to Austin and we will all ride like crazy bastards through the twisties!

Just got back home to Texas a couple of hours ago.  From Lamesa, TX to Lordsburg, NM, and back home to Texas my sohc four performed flawlessly!  Just put my bike in the garage.  She has 1,000 miles under her belt in just four days!  I am proud of her!  How many 40 year old bikes could do this without so much as a hiccup!  Going west with Godzilla, I averaged around 33mpg going uphill and into the wind.  I had an all time low of 28 mpg going 70 mph into a 30 mph headwind right before the handoff in Lordsburg, NM! Over the 500 miles coming home, I had a tailwind.  Going home my mpg was 45, 47, 54, 51, 38, and 50 with speeds ranging from 60 to 75 mph.  Coming home, the 54 mpg was an all time best for me and my bike!  So I got my best and worst mpg on the same trip!  Thank god for the reliability and dependability of an sohc four because I was all alone for 1,000 miles!                    Justin Carthel, Littlefield, TX

I envy your journey and bikes reliability. I am bummed I was sidelined for this. You did a good think senor Carthel!

Yes, yes and YES!!!  The Three Sisters (Twisted Sisters) looks like a stellar place to start:

Maybe we can figure out a way to meet up semi-regularly -- every couple months? every quarter? -- to do some sort of ride and stay in touch.

The rally was a great time, and I have mucho respect for that CB550 of yours -- what a stunning performer!  I can't believe how readily it hits 100mph.  And hopefully you noticed some improvement with the properly-synched carbs, too.

Cheers, mates!

well I was thinking maybe I could come down with my 350 and join you guys .. but then I read the part about the 100 mph and i figured I better just stay home in AR.  don't believe the 350 will EVER get that type of speed, especially with my fat ass on it..   :)

Coke,
You know we weren't doing 100 the whole time.  LOL  I just ton'd it up on the way to Austin for a sec.  I am surprised that it hit 100 with that topper on the back and all my crap loaded on there.

Come on down.  Perhaps in the fall.  It will be a good time.

Chris,

The bike runs so much better after the synch!  Tell Reagan thanks again for me.

Yea, it does look like Godzilla had a GREAT time down there!! Hopefully he'll be detoxed by the time he has to cross into Canada!!;D
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

2 CB - this thread is nearly two years old.  Are you a NM rider? Proto is the only NM rider as far as I know, but not from Albu.
