How do I know if I have a good shift fork?
Rebuilding the 76 750 to chase out demons in the transmission, Recounted here.
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=100654.msg1126308#msg1126308I think what is causing the problem are the shift forks. I've got 3 set's of forks, 1 from the K6, 1 from the parts K3 and an unknown off Ebay. So I've been trying to figure a way to measure which forks are the straightest.
I first drilled a hole in a piece of acrylic to hold the shift fork rod at 90deg, slide the fork over it and measure the gap on each tip to the base.
That didn't work.

Standing and staring at the case I realized I already had a shift fork rod holder with a 90 degree base to it.

Slid one fork at a time onto the rod and measured each fork , both tips and the pin to the outside machined part of the case.
I'm only interested in the difference between the two tips. If it's large the tips are not in the same plane, ie. one is bent more that the other.
But this still doesn't tell me if both tips are bent the same amount.
Has anybody played around with these and have any more information?
Thanks
Steve
