Hondamatic friction discs for cb750a
« on: February 15, 2012, 09:45:15 AM »
Sam's bike needs new pn:613143 Hondamatic clutch friction plates. Looks like they've been discontinued through Honda. Anybody know where we might find some?

Well Honda don't sell gaskets but it hasn't stopped us getting some made.
If any of the odd ball parts are going to wear in these motors it's the friction disc.
Can we get them made if we have the pattern ?

I can phone tomorrow in the UK, can anyone phone the US depot.

Gotta love the internet.

22535-639-010 friction discs are D&E Automotive Products 139106, or Alto 047700.

22535-639-000 steel discs are D&E Automotive Products 139126, or Alto 047701.

No luck on the 22535-393-000 friction discs.  However, I do find it VERY interesting that the new Honda part numbers (22535-639-505) replaces both of the prior two friction disc part numbers.  Makes you think don't it?

I'm slightly optomistic that the friction discs above may work as a replacement for both parts . . . .

Someone take a disc or two and head into a tranny place . . . !

I would, but I'm not splitting my cases (of my single running bike) for this venture . . . . ;)

Thanks Kandy, has anyone got any friction or steel plates (preferably new) that we can use to check if these are the same ?

Can't seem to leave this alone . . . the more I look, the more I become convinced that a Honda 2-speed transmission uses the same frictions and steels as our bikes.

I've come to this conclusion after looking at our service manual, which states that there are 6 or 4 friction/steel plates, depending on whether it is high or low - or 10 total.

The parts fiche shows three different numbers for the frictions (each with a shown quantity of 4 or 6), and one part number for the steels.  The three different numbers implies (to me anyway) that any one of the three numbers would work.  Since one of the numbers (for each the friction and the steel) directly and exactly matches the Honda car 2-speed tranny part, I'd say we have a winner.

The rare part may be the end clutch plate.  This plate comes in six different thicknesses.  Back to positive thinking . . . the interesting thing (again) is that the Honda car 2-speed tranmission also have an end clutch plate that comes in six different thicknesses, and most interesting - is that the six thicknesses match our service manuals six thicknesses.  Could be that they are the same?

Well, the torque converters on the CB750A came from the cars, so the rest is very likely. Thanks for everyone's help!

Clutch disc re-builder: This nice man said he could re-build your clutch packs to OEM SPEC.   KENT FOLTZ  owner of ENERGY ONE  at  e1mfg@aol.com  or call 562-698-7809  in Whittier Ca.  Tell him POPS from the dealers show in INDY 2012 gave you this number. I talk with this man for a while and told him about Honda not having these disc and he said he strips down the plates and reinstall friction pads to OEM specs.  Can do that #8 plate to the 6 thickness listed in factory spec book [ I got a factory book ] for the right stack height.  Let's get this info to all owners of these 750 HONDAMATICS as I can get most of my parts at the factory in Marysville, Ohio at their World order desk for their workers.  I did say WORLDS ORDER desk and in a matter of key strokes they can tell you if this part is anywhere on this planet = bought the last new OEM kick starter from this site and got it in 4 days a few years back.

You should get 8 frictions in the car kit - although we need 10.

For future reference, Honda automobile 2-speed/3-speed transmission frictions/steels have been validated to the same!

This was validated in another thread - but want to make sure that the results are posted here.

If you have a high mileage Hondamatic 750 or are rebuilding one for more performance, replacing the clutch discs and steels are good insurance when your block is split for bearings/etc.
I can't find an internet listing for D&E Automotive Products. Alto has a web site showing distributors in the USA, none in the northeast. I emailed an inquiry to them that wasn't responded to.
The cheap source is still out there. $1.85 each is very cheap until you add the $99.00+ shipping charge when I tried to buy 10 of each.
Speaking of getting 10 each of the discs/steels, you only get 8 of each with the Civic overhaul kit. Makotransmissionparts.com has allowed me to buy more of the friction discs at $1.93 each and the steels at $5.25 each with a reasonable shipping charge direct from their supplier.
Yes, the car and bike discs interchange. Your local import transmission rebuilder may have sources that we don't. Just an update for these parts.
