Very cool! No tweaking at all to get mounted? You will have to meet up with a few of us fellow Wisconsinites. My buddy and I ride around Lake Winnebago from here in Waukesha
Nice. Did you install new gaskets?
There a crush style gasket that fits in the head. Highly recommend new with a new pipe. This is one style for instance. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EXHAUST-GASKET-Honda-Four-CB500-CB550-CB550F-74-75-76-77-78-/170789546208?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27c3d9a8e0&vxp=mtr
That exhaust looks great, and the price (just looked up on Carpy's site) is very reasonable too. In response to loosing access to the oil filter... does that mean every time you change the oil filter (and remove the exhaust) you need to buy new crush washers when you reinstall the exhaust? I am assuming yes.. but I was curious.
Have you fired it up yet? How's the sound?
I think that I have that same header in the garage that recently came off a cafe that is getting done over, and I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on this: since the header is so close to the filter ,should an oil cooler be used?
Pipe looks good. You do need to get a good set of acorn nuts and washers instead of the stock rusty nuts. Make sure the acorn nuts are deep enough to fully seat on the washers and compress the gaskets. Acorn nuts will protect the exhaust studs from rusting (think road spray) and make the headers easier to remove since you will be doing it every 2K miles to change the filter. They would look a lot better to boot.
it mentions on carpy's site that you should rejet the mains with this exhaust... is this only the case if you previously had a 4-4 and not the already re-jetted supersport? ...in other words did you rejet? a
Sweet! I've got a Carpy 550 header on the way as well, and appreciate you sharing your pics. Sadly, I cannot obtain any New Glarus products in IL, so enjoy that Hop Hearty. They used to "export" down here but haven't for a while.

I think ill need to pull the carbs out again..not sure what to do. Well if I do that I might as well buy new boots for them cause I know they won't be in good shape after one more pulling aroundSent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I got my gaskets for the exhaust... Will these just go into the headers snugg? Or is there a technique to get them to settle in?? * gotta go to work now so haven't been able to look inside the headers.
I'm a noob to the 550, but on my other bikes I use a tiny piece of Scotch tape to hold them in if necessary. Either stick it, or fold it into a shim to wedge the gasket in place.

Inside. You'll have to use a "pick" tool to get the old ones out.
