Topic: Installed the carpy 550 exhaust.

it mentions on carpy's site that you should rejet the mains with this exhaust... is this only the case if you previously had a 4-4 and not the already re-jetted supersport?   ...in other words did you rejet? a

I was told from one person where I live to see how it runs...he said it might just run fine..so that's why I put the carbs back in...carpy told me to bump up the mains to 120 from my 110. I think ill need to pull the carbs out again..not sure what to do. Well if I do that I might as well buy new boots for them cause I know they won't be in good shape after one more pulling around

there are a bunch of threads for conditioning the boots (soaking them in different things) assuming they dont have any holes after you remove them.

I got my gaskets for the exhaust... Will these just go into the headers snugg? Or is there a technique to get them to settle in??
* gotta go to work now so haven't been able to look inside the headers.

I'm a noob to the 550, but on my other bikes I use a tiny piece of Scotch tape to hold them in if necessary. Either stick it, or fold it into a shim to wedge the gasket in place.

 They don't go inside the headers. Put them in the head/exhaust ports. Make sure the old ones are removed. They get crushed flat and covered in carbon and are easy to overlook.

I was going to try to find its source but the reverse image lookup site i use has a minimum size...  but yeah pretty awsome

I squeeze them in my hand a little to get them slightly oval so they stick in the ports. If you really gorilla grip these washers, it could fold on you,don't ask me how I know. Then just stick them in the ports.

Little dab of permatex  silicone etc will hold them in the head also.

Inside. You'll have to use a "pick" tool to get the old ones out.

thanks for the headsup to get the gaskets..I would have never known. Got them in last nite, also took out the carbs again so I can install the 120 jets. The removal of the carbs was so much easier this time.

So I bumped up to the 120 main jets....should I stay at the 38 pilot jet?? Or the idol is that what it is?? Just want to get some info on what some think I should have for jets with this exhaust.
