Forks dilemma
« on: March 06, 2012, 09:33:09 AM »
As I am slowly progressing to dual disc brake setup, I have to make a hard choice. I have total of three forks, and I need to pick one.

- Original K0 is in decent shape, but it will not work with brake brackets I have
- K3 with inner tubes rusted and pitted a lot in the area of tripple tree. These will work with my T shaped caliper brackets.
- K3 or so, tubes in great shape but long - 3" too long

My options:

- use K0 tubes and K3 lowes - i dont think it is possible,is it?
- use K3 lowes and those crapy K3 tubes and just cover it up
- shorten those long tubes, doable, but does it make sense? I would have to recut the thread for the top plug too.

What do you think? How about combining K0 and K3 - would it work? What would Santa do? What would Jimmy Buffett do?  Is there life in the space?

Yes I know, thank you, also Dime City.

But i have three sets now, hard to believe I should not be able to combine it into a decent working unit.

Looks like nobody ever done it.

Bullet #1 is not possible. The internals are way diffrent.
Bullet #2 is my vote. You can clean up the rusted area with a little work.
Bullet #3: a good machine shop could probably cut the tops and rethread them. Also, if you're going cafe, you could just slide them up the triples. If you use clipons, if you use the standard Hbar mounts the tubes will hit the bars at about 1+".

Thank you.

You confirmed my thoughts on bullet one, the tubes from bullet 2 are pitted like a moonface but they will work, just not pretty and I will cut those long ones in my lathe if I get isnpired.
