I'm thinking of building or buying a wood yard barn for storage of my lawn tractor, mower and a couple 750's. Looking at 8X12' does anyone have experience with one? A 750 is under 8' long but allowing for studs, 8' might not be deep enough.

Go for the very biggest you can afford / fit! You'll never regret it by thinking 'I wish I had LESS space..."

10 years ago, I had a nice 10x16 Tedds Shedd (with roll-up 8' wide door in the 10' end) delivered and LOVED it. Then, we moved, and the new house had nothing. I put up a cheapie 8x10 tin shed and was never happy.

Moved again, and this time we went with 12x20 with 10' roll-up door in the 12' end, and I'm back to loving it!!

that's what i have in the winter i shove the mower in the corner then put both bikes in there.it's a tight fit. but it will work the mower gets kicked out during the summer months. i have actually had three bikes in there at one time make sure the one you ride the most has easy access.

Kirkn has the right idea, go as big as you can. Thing is, no matter how big you get, you always have the stuff to fill it.

I'd live in that. I'm going the shipping container route, they have gone down in price lately.

Ah, I looked into shipping containers too. You should do it! The city won't let me put one in where I live.

I've used shipping containers at work, make sure you get one with good doors/latches. I've got a big garage but the bikes put me past my useful working space. I've got a theory that your junk automaticaly expands to fill all available space.

I went the hobo route....
But before you laugh, that 10x15 "shed" you see is $200 bucks from harbor freight! Been through a few windstorms and is still standing..

Anyway, as others have said, try to go bigger. 10x15 it seems tight for me with just 2 bikes and some shelves.

I had a new apprentice plumber working for me that was just back from Iraq, he said a sea can was prime real estate over there. Covered with enough sand it even stayed cooler than outside. Mine had been in a flood, they opened the doors so it could fill and not float away, afterwards there was a fish in the file cabinet.

these are very nice "tuff shed" makes some nice ones like that its just that a container is around 2800.00 and those run like 5000.00 also containers can take more abuse i.e. hurrican,tornado,flooding ect

Yeah, go big. Certain things you can get away with, but in this town a friend of mine's daughters are living behind the house, upstairs of a 'motorcycle shed.'

It was the only way to get his daughters out of the house!

Check the local codes for MC shed and do a rent plummed micro living space to pay for the garage(?).

You just can't beat a decent shed, my first 20 years of married life was spent living in Army married quarters around the country with varying sizes of shed space, from 10 x 10's to a "high set" house in Brisbane with almost the entire floor space of the house underneath with a concrete floor for garage space.

When I finally retired from the Army I bought a house with no driveway past my carport, and no garage. My wife really wanted the house, so the deal was that she got the house if I could spend some more money on getting a driveway and garage built. I had a 20 x 30 foot garage built (the largest that the local council would allow at the time) and at the time I wondered how the hell I'd ever fill it.

11 years on, I'm thinking about buying a 12 x 12 for storing my ride on mower and a couple of bikes. I agree entirely that over time, your junk expands to fill a garage to capacity. Cheers, Terry.
