cb550f stock exhaust on cb550k How to?
« on: April 18, 2012, 11:44:06 AM »
Both are 1976 if that matters. I have the header installed but only after removing the rear brake pedal.
Question is finding a different rear brake pedal that will work. Note I dont have a f model parts bike. Has anyone used one off a GL1000. There is one on ebay I am looking at, I am just waiting to get a response regarding the splined shaft size.  The bend looks like it may work.

Also regarding the muffler...any thoughts on that? The one that I got with the header (still f model stock exhaust) is really rusted out & thru.

If you use the F frame, the welded on features allow use of the F model brake lever, foot peg, and kick lever, which all clear and work as they should.

Imo, the F header on a K bike is a match made in the painful style.  Better to find a K frame.

I totally understand the desire. I think the stock Honda header is the best looking 4 into 1 on the planet.  But, each and every adaptation to the K frame I've seen looked kludgy (and often works poorly) at best.
Save yourself major headache and get a header designed to fit a K model, is my recommendation.  Further, mufflers won't be much issue, either.

For what it's worth, I have an F header on my K model [bought it that way].
No issues but it does not have the stock muffler.

Someone might trade you an exhaust for a K bike if your F exhaust is in serviceable condition. That someone might be me...
