Primary chain- service honda
« on: April 24, 2012, 02:52:17 AM »
Hey all-

Might be a stupid question, but I'm going to order my primary chains and tensioner from service honda, as that seems to be the best price and is recommended by people here-

My question is if anyone knows the proper order quantity?  My impression is that they come 2 in a bag (matched set) so ordering one will give me what I need to fix one engine.  But the price is so low (compared to cyclex) that I wonder if that's an individual price?

Anyone order recently enough to remember?

Thanks-

They've already got an email in their inbox, and I'll call when they're open-  thought maybe someone else would know the answer in the meantime.

They are generally supplied as a pair.
The reason being is that a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.
In this case, a pair of chains is required for the application.
If I was you

Ha ha, I know a bloke who did that too Steve, and so as not to waste money, I, er, I mean he bought another CB750 to rebuild! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Order 1 and "get a pair"

That's a bit harsh Jerry, he was only asking a question! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I thought they came separate and you had to order 2? If anyone has a pair of new chains for a 750 I will take them off your hands....

Cycle X sells Diamond chains that are lots stronger than stock chains, maybe you are comparing to those, they are a lot more expensive....

The HD chains from cyclex are 400, and a pair of OEM honda ones are 200.  Service honda told me today that it's one chain per bag, but it seems that at one time honda sold them as a pair under the same part number, which would explain the confusion.  On ebay I see them both ways...

David Silver Spares has the genuine set (pair) for $111.00 US.
That's about the going rate.
200 bucks seems a bit steep.

Do NOT buy from those damn scalpers on EBay. They are blowing smoke up your ass on the price and taking advantage of this very confusion.

ServiceHonda.com  $92.09 and that is for BOTH irregardless of what the kid told someone on the phone. He does not specialize in CB750's and only knows what the picture shows on his fiche. Pecantree and I have been there and done that.

Enter the part number from that bag.

That's what i think too. I never actually bought the OEM chains but i looked into it a lot and got the run around as to how many for what price. But the dust settled on something less than $100 and 2 came in the bag. Can't trust the kids in the parts dept, as well meaning as they may be. Can only trust what's in the bag.

Pecantrees bag says Quantity 1, but there are 2 in the bag. Honda meant to sell a pair as one.

I bought the ClassicCycleCity chains from Germany.
