1973 CB750
« on: May 01, 2012, 06:06:42 am »
Starting my second cb750 restore.  This one Im thinking of going all out and keeping the bike.   I have all the parts except 4-4 exhaust and a seat in which ill be buying new unless I can find some good deals out there.   Wish me luck.

today, tear down, get the frame and swing arm ready to powdercoat.  Ill be sandblasting and painting the small parts myself.

Looking forward to this build.  Did you have any pictures from before you started tearing down the bike?

All stock Stev-o.  Will have to crack her open to see what needs done on the engine. Will have new ignition, stock shocks. Will have many new parts. I hope to make it nicer than my first build and try to keep my budget at about $3k total.   The last one was $1800.00

I currently have the frame parts sitting in my suburban waiting to be taken to the powder coater.

used a hole saw to make some plugs for the front end.  I know, I know, do the tappered bearing mod.  We'll see.  Im also going to pull off the vin plate, they jacked up my last vin plate even when i heavy duty taped it and told them to be careful.

Is it me or did powder coating prices go up in the last year. A year ago i did my 72 CB750 for 180.00 (8) pcs. Now they want 250.00 and 300.00.    Finally found a guy 30 mins away that will do the frame, swing arm, center stand, tool tray and kick stand for 200.00.  dropping it off monday now.

Frame, two swing arms, center stand, kick stand, tool tray, top triple tree, $250.00 sand blasted and two coats. Powder Pro Coatings in Moorseville, Indiana. Good people, was done in less than a week.  They protected the vin plate and the stamped vin, and all threads.

Now comes the fun part, putting the parts back onto the freshly baked frame. Everytime I redo a bike I end up spending 6X's the time shinning and cleaning up the parts to put back ON to the frame so they look as good as the frame does.

good question, I thought i did ok for a spay bomb last time but since im building a nice $3k bike or more i think i go more pro. I just got back in touch with an old high school friend recently and what do you know?  he's a painter.  He offered to paint a tank and sides for cost. So i might just take him up on that.   I will be doing the Candy Ruby Red i believe.
