oh yeah,
i think one of the coil wires is touching, it seems to be a pulsing shock, they are so tight in there not much room, and have come disconnected before.

It's got to be a coil wire, there's nothing else on the bike that's at a high enough voltage to shock you that I can think of.

Watch out for that, that's far more then enough power to be dangerous.

It is a 71' 500 I bought for $250 4-5 years ago with no title. I have a 73' 750 (Stock w8000 miles but need s TLC) that has been my "go to" ride. Anyhoo, last year I was moving, and got it running to ride it to my new house, and it was like a toy, fun as hell. This winter I decided to do some mild customizing/ messing around which led to frame off rebulid, custom fabricated wiring harness,DYNA-S ignition,DYNA 5ohm  coils and wires,paint-decals and endless replacement parts, rubber,switches..blah blah. I was going to put a big bore kit in it, then I discovered the SOHC4 greenspun archives. All advice pointed to a 550 motor, so I found one on eBay for $105.00 and stuck it in.
It has the Pod air cleaners, 105 jets and open headers, I also converted the rear shocks to "shorty9 3/4"struts  and lowered the front fender. The tuning is a work in progress(patience right?) , but it runs welll. I cannot say enough about the DYNA ignition. I read many many threads about troubles with it. I bolted it on, statically timed it and it is ON.
 I will stop blathering now....

Thats excellent chippy!  I've heard that our little bikes dont produce enough power as far as charging, and that causes people trouble with upgraded ignition.  Looks like you made it work though?  Anyway, would you happen to have the paint code for that green?  I'm thinkin of a nice bright green for my cafe.

I've run the same Dyna-S ignition on all my sohc/4s and never had any issues.  It's when running 3ohm coils that you start having charging problems.  If you stick with the 5ohm, it works fine.

How do you like the dyna-s?  Any noticable performance/efficiency gains?

Gordon is right, you must go with the 5ohm coils(there black), the 3s(there green), 3s give you a hotter spark and will work, but you would have to install a ballast to run them in non race conditions to not kill your battery.(or adjust your regulator, and that can cause other problems). Anyhoo, I got mine from MPS.com(ignition, coils and wires)the difference is amazing. I dont even have to choke it(I am running a little rich though) and the throttle seems snappier, + it is EASY to install and time. I am going to put it on my 750 next...no doubt

I will have to find the paint code, I will post it next week... I am very pleased with it, thanks!
I got the decals from reproductiondecals.com($50!) and am very pleased with thier quality, but applying them is a #$%*, it took me an hour!, and I almost ruined one. It says @ the top  of the instruction sheet that a pro should install them, and they may be right...

I don't know how much of a performance gain I've gotten, but it definitely starts easier.  My starter button broke about 6 months ago, and I haven't bothered to replace it because it starts on the first or second kick everytime, even on super-cold mornings.  I guess you could say it helps the bike perform more often, because there's more time spent riding since I'm not messing around with the points and timing anymore.  Just set it once and never touch it again.

Thanks for the comments and info guys.  When Im due for a tune up, I may go the Dyna-s route instead!
