1969 sandcast score
« on: May 19, 2012, 02:02:18 AM »
It's been forever since I posted in the forum though I have been lurking the whole time.  I need to ask if anyone could help me figure out what a fair price for my 69 sandcast would be.  Essentially it's a parts bike.  A good start for a total resto. no tank or seat.  The motor is locked up but the cases are intact.  The frame is good, and the triple tree is intact.  I have scoured ebay and the few for sale post in an attempt to figure a sale price but there isn't a lot of info posted out there.  The sand cast forum is real careful to not post asking or sale prices in the ads.  I'm realistic in what I want to get for the bike but at the same time I'm saving up for a newer bike to ride and the more cash I can scrounge up the better.  I can post pics sometime this weekend if that will help.  Thanks
I farted and made my son cry.

Pics would help, but I have seen basket cases going for 3 to 5k.  I would not give it away you could get a late model bike at the upper end of that range.  Non running regular KOs seem to be selling for 3k or more.  Good luck looking forward to those pics.

There was a low number KO that sold for 10k :o   Motor was locked and pipes were missing but bike was otherwise pretty much complete and in need of total restoration.  I know that is extreme but I'd shoot for the stars...Larry

G'Day Mr B, long time no speak mate, where have you been? Anyway, the really early sandcasts (first 1000 or so) seem to go for enormous money, then (we're talking basket cases here, right?) the rest of them seem to go around the 3 to 5K mark as previously stated.

To bring it up to mint condition would take a fair amount of time and another 10K or so (wrinkle tank, correct seat, unstamped HM300 pipes, chrome, paint, etc etc) and it might be worth up to 20K, depending on how the market is going on the day.

Post some pics mate, we'd love to drool over it! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Can you give usan idea of serial numbers.. last 4 digits..bit can leave last 2 blank
#0787..like this #07**or frame #1032..like this #10**    if you dont want to post whole #

I had #572 frame, whole bike at one time.. early ones are usually worth more, but its a curse, anything missing is even harder to find than most sandcast parts...
 Good Luck..

Different strokes for different folks ;D If it makes you feel uncomfortable to post the complete vin# or tag# of your bike, don't do it. If it doesn't bother you than go ahead and show it ;) No big deal either way ::)

I think this topic has be covered in other threads before ???

I concur on original sandcasts going 3-5k as basket cases. There is one on eBay you could check right now for pricing.

I'm off to buy my first k0 just nirth of san francisco in thirty minutes. Wish me luck.

I've been busy with school and life.  My K3 smoked a valve last summer, that motor had over 100k on it.  I put my 75 GL1000 on the road in it's place.  I crashed just over a month ago, broke 3 ribs bruised my guts and bashed my hip real bad.  I'm mending slow.
Here are some pics of the beast, not much to look at.

interesting. Are the headlight and fork ears silver or just primer? Can you tell the original color?

There seems to be a mish mash of early parts on the bike.  The fork ears are painted silver, there is no original paint left.

I plan on getting rid of it.  I joined the sandcast only forum and vaguely mentioned I was considering selling it.  There is a short list of interested buyers.  I'm taking a break from the the classic bikes, maintenance and down time is severely eating up my very short riding seasons.  I lost a month of riding last year when my 750 croaked and so far I've lost a month of this season because my goddamned goldwing will not run after crashing it. I'm looking at a CB919 and hope that selling this bike will get me closer to my goal.

So where do the numbers CB750E-1003374 leave this bike on the K0 scale?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I'm not sure I was only able to narrow the production year to 1969, the early bikes don't have a date stamp and vin plate, just the vin stamped into the headstock.

I was asking because I believe that Silver was a JDM color only although I don't know if it was offered in '69.

Completely faded candy paints can go back to the base color. red is worst for fading...
check headlite ears for water damage (freezing). If they come off you may get a color clue. if gaiters are torn, undo the top collar and you should see previos color...
How far is frame number off motor. Is there a neck tag ? not sure when they started using them, the early ones did not have them...
