I asked in another thread where members were talking about bikes that were banned from competition in the USA.
Question, which model of Honda was the first to be banned from racing by the AMA ?

good one.... thought i had a good memory but drawing a blank here... doesnt ring a bell at all. could it be the CB450 banned from dirt track back in 65' for being a DOHC?

If it was not the CB750 then it had to pre-date the AMA ban placed on multi-cylinder transverse motors showing up on the flat-track circuit in I think '76.

yep, that leaves only the early slanted 125/250/305's in the game... just not the CR's as those were dohc four valvers

These bikes were Japanese home market only apart from the 4 that went to AHM and a couple went to Honda Argentena.

The one in my workshop came from the Honda Argentina race department.
There were so few made, even Honda don't have a genuine one in their museum.

As an aside, can anyone help me with a "The Honda Winners Are Here" or the Dick Mann Daytona winner poster? Another Honda triumph - wait, wrong word - victory - no, not quite.....OK, win.

Good contest with an unlikely answer. I still think though that the Civil Service answer was a bit "trick" - you could've raced them at non-AMA races. But a good one nonetheless. Congratulations!

its funny how your appreciation of machinery can change in time.
never saw a CB95 but when i was a young lad, two friends with early honda twins asked for my help, one had a CA72, the other a CD175..... compared to my "big" british singles these seemed so toy like with their tiny engines and sheet metal frames that i sort off dismissed them as cheap junk. oh boy, now they look to me so much jewel like, and a real pitty that i never tried to find out where they ended up. ditto for a a NSU 250 Max that could have been mine for 50$ or something... it looked so odd at the time
