Cb400f oil leak trouble
« on: May 21, 2012, 03:58:04 PM »
Hey everyone, I have a problem with my 400f supersport. It appears to be leaking oil from the alternator case. I think it's the oil pass plug but it may also be the crank seal. I've replaced the o ring on the plug already and that doesn't seem to help. It leaks a litre of oil ever tank of gas. Anyone ever done the crank seal without splitting cases? Or has anyone else ever encountered a faulty oil pass plug? Anyone know it's purpose?

I just had this same problem a few weeks ago. I thought it was the crank seal but turned out to be that plug. I gave it a good cleaning then sealed it off with Tigerseal.

Click on the blue link for Tigerseal. A similar product is called Sikaflex.
My only guess about that plug is that it's maybe used for flushing the oil galleries after machining.
