New Coils, wires, electronic ignition. HELP
« on: June 22, 2012, 07:15:06 PM »
So I have been doing some diggin around before I look stupid on the forum but I want to double check just in case.

Here is a pic of my new universal coils from DIME CITY, as you can see there are two blade connections and I am just not sure which to connect to the coils. I know the right side has two wires blue/white and Black/white and left has yellow/white and black white. From my research and reasoning the Black/white is power for the coils and the blue and yellow are signal from the points. As you will be able to see from the pictures there is no marks on the coils just two symmetrical connectors. Can I just plug both the black and blue into one coil indiscriminately?

Thanks

You might wish to check the primary ohms resistance? Some of the Dime City coils are WAY too low of resistance to be used on these bikes.

Just a thought...?
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

If yours are 3 ohms, I can offer the Resistor Pack (1 ohm) to help get them up a little bit, but the 3 ohms + Dyna S is death to the 550 electrics, even with a stock headlight. We have many sad stories of that here in the forums.

One day when I'm not chasing parts for everyone's rebuilds...I'm gonna solve this alternator issue for the 500/550 crowd. There is a way...

Good I am fairly new into these old bikes but learning a tonne along the way. And yes I have ran accross the horrible charging issues in my playing around trying to get this thing running. One question, would it help to put in an on off switch to the headlight to save some of the power for the day rides?

THanks

Yes if it is legal where you ride and you can live with the safety issue.

You bet, Here in Saskatchewan Canada only vehicles made in 1990 and later need to have them by law.
