CL175 Erratic Idle Issue
« on: June 23, 2012, 02:54:22 PM »
Recently cleaned/rebuilt the carbs with OEM parts. Verified valve clearance set to 0.002" all around (cold engine). Lapped valves & ground valve seats. Adjusted the timing to be spot using the timing light method. Perhaps the spark advance springs are weak thus affecting the timing?? Old air filters but they look "somewhat clean". Verified no leaks on the intake side by spraying carb cleaner on all joints and listening for increased idle. Compression in both cyl. @ ~ 120psi.

Main Jet# 92
Pilot Jet# 35

Q: What is causing the bike to idle erratically and consistently at 2500+ RPM. <2500RPM and the engine just stalls. Thought I had the idle speed screw set to where the idle would remain constant but the engine will eventually stall. The idle mixture screws are set to spec. at 1-1/4 turns per "Glenn's HONDA 2-Cyl. Repair & Tune-Up Guide"

Any thoughts/comments? Thanks---

2500 sounds high for an idle. Are your floats at the right height? Are you running on both cylinders? Pull the plugs and see what that tells you. Are they wet dry and white. Thats where i would start.
