Bought a CBR1000F Hurricane for $100
« on: July 03, 2012, 04:51:42 PM »
I bought a 1988 Honda CBR1000F Hurricane yesterday for $100. They had pulled the motor apart to replace the head gasket so they said. The motor is in 3 different boxes, I would like to find someone rebuild the engine for me. If its not too expensive I will have someone build it for me. I am gonna put my 76 CB550 engine on it if it comes to me rebuilding it myself due to finances. Anyone with any knowledge on this bike or would like to give it a shot at rebuilding for a reasonable price let me know. As of now I can't find anything on it beside one main bearing half.

For some reason I'm gonna bite here. What is "not expensive....reasonable price". Putting the 550 engine "on it"?? Some inherit problems with that engine if I remember correctly. Charging jack shafts or something. Also....chain that drove the oil pump. I'm so glad I bought an FJ1200 instead of that bike in 1987....you see 25 year old FJ's ....no Hurricanes. Ever.

I have a 1990 model CBR1000F that is my main touring bike these days if I am riding without my wife (then it is a 1993 R100GSPD.)  I bought it new and it will turn over 60,000 miles (mostly touring) here pretty quick.  The only issue that I am aware of with these engines had to do with the cam chain tensioner.  The original tensioner just didn't get the job done after the engines got a few miles on them, getting rather rattly.  Honda came out with an updated tensioner in 1990, unfortunately after they put mine together.  I put the updated tensioner in mine years ago and it has been fine since then.  It's been an awesome bike.  I'm leaving on a 6000 mile trip on it the end of July.

Well as of right now I only have trading material until work picks up. I wont price another mans work, tell me what you might want to charge. I might not have all the parts to put it back together, I have yet to find the stator. I will lay all the parts out sometime this weekend and take some pictures.

The cheapest bikes sometimes end up being the most expensive to get on the road.

Good luck.
