CB750 motor rebuild question, output shaft drip pan

While rebuilding a tranny on my CB750, decided to replace the original output shaft (with the chain oiler) with a later model one that is just a solid shaft.  Noticed that the drip/catch pan is just a hair to long to fit into the end of the shaft like the original, so my question is this - In this situation, would you guys recommend grinding off the end of the end of the pan to where it'd still put oil onto the solid shaft?  Or just get rid of the pan altogether?  Thanks.

Are you talking about item 10?  Others may have a different opinion but if the shaft is solid (or plugged), it’s not going to do anything so not required.

Yes, that's the one.  In Hondaman's book, he also said it can be removed, but also mentioned that the shaft tends to run a little dry.  Did the later motors just eliminate using the pan?
