I used screws. I got really short screws and then I took some of those plastic anchors used for putting screws in sheet rock but I cut most of the tip off and tapped them into the existing hole with a small hammer.

cool bike.  what type of bars are those ?   Are they clip-ons mounted on the fork tubes above the top triple ?

Yes. I wussed out and put them there because I didn't have rear controls.
