I don't know the 550 as well as the 750, but something is wrong. You sure you have the right part?
(the 750 has bullet connectors )

Ok the problem I am having with this stator is the connection.The 550 engine that I am rebuilding didnt have one on it.



The 1971 cb500 that I picked up does have it





I need this 500 stator pin connection to fit on the 550 blade style connection


I hope that makes more sense on what I am trying to do.

Hi Matt,
  I saw your problem with blades and prongs so I went looking through some crates. I had a 69 750 that had that pin set up. it wasn't common on the 550's or 500's  as far as I can tell.
  I may have the whole wiring harness,fuse box and all spread around the shop if you really wanted it but, I think it would haunt you to use it as it is uncommon to the 500/ 550 and I'm not sure of it's overall integrity right now.
  I was saving it for the color coded wires, that and i never throw stuff away.

Thanks rb550four I picked one up this morning for cheap all good to go. I also might be able to get a set of 550 carbs that I need instead of using the 500 ones so happy about that.

Not much of a update been working a lot. Finally had time to put the tires on and get it a roller again.All the engine parts have come in and will get the engine together this week or next. Once I have the engine in I can start the fabrication work. I am doing this one different than the last one. Will get everything cut, welded, grinded, bleed on, cursed at and fitted before I start cleaning, polishing, painting etc. The last build I would paint or polish then put it on saying to myself "it will never be taken off again it is ready" yeah right.  Once I get it all done will take it apart and do all the making it look nice.

Is that a 750 Nighthawk tank? The taper of the rear of the tank makes it remind me of those. Are you going to modify the tank so it sits on the frame lower and hides the frame?
vintage connections has connector blocks as well as connectors, if you need to rebuild replace wiring.

Nice set of headlight ears, if you run across a good set let me know, been looking for a good right one.

You can put a set of early style long thinner stalk posts on those ears and mount a 500/'74 550 signals or a set of aftermarket signals on the stalks. The separation from the headlight will make them visible and not washed out by the headlamp beam.

I like you UFB project, she will likely be a swan when finished.

Started to put the engine back together and was missing one of the dowel pins so got the valves lapped and put back in. Searched the garage for an hour and finally found it in the dishwasher sneaked  some parts in when the wife was out  :o

Need to get the engine in so I can finish mounting the gas tank and then start working on making the exhaust. I want to try and make a scrambler style exhaust but have two concerns. One is the heat from the pipes on the legs and the second one is the right side being able to use the kickstarter need to play around and see how it is. I also need to make sidecovers the stock ones arent going to work with how the tank goes down that far.

Disregard the fenders,tail light etc still playing around with stuff. Put a 71 cb500 tail light on it looks like crap sitting out there like that lol but meh.
The gauges are from the 71 cb500 also I like them they are much smaller than the 550 they arent mounted so they are sitting flat a bit.

Thanks I think the tank is off a early cb900. I will keep an eye out for a set of ears for you. This tank is giving me fits but just gotta get the engine in first then go from there. This tank has 3 distinct lines on it one is the top of the tank the other is almost the bottom of the tank and the third it the very bottom. I havent sanded the very bottom line yet still has the old paint on it so I know that is throwing me off a bit but I think I have to mount the tank with that bottom line being the straight one if that makes any sense.

 Will you be changing the battery box over to a top loader, like on the cb 450's? Just wondering since I read about scrambler pipes.. This sounds like a cool looking idea.
  My first street bike was a cl 350, I always wore leathers, not so much because of road rash , it was the heat off the pipes, it was so hot that one leg (on the leathers) was shrunk by the heat. I loved that bike.

These are going to be fun  :o Decided to use the carbs off the 1971 cb500 opened them up to take a look at them gotta love old gas left in the carbs...

RB not sure what I am going to do about the battery need to mock up the exhaust and just see how close they are to the legs and then go from there. I have never made exhaust before so it my not work out I still keep my eye out for a descent set of used stock pipes.

Those carbs would clean up with an hour or so in the ultrasonic, then dissassemble and run them through the ultrasonic  again with a solution change in the middle of a two hour run. I like the purple Simple Green that Home Depot carries mixed about 3 parts water (distilled) to one part simple green. The purple stuff does not attack the alluminum alloy like the regular stuff will.

Do you have an ultrasonic cleaner? If not, then a gallon can of berryman's carb dip works pretty good if you don't leave them in too long.

I don't have a ultrasonic cleaner  >:( I am not worried about cleaning them up that's no problem just worried about what else I will find corroded away. As you can see the clips on the carbs have been mostly eaten away. I am pretty sure those are hard to find but I did see a post where someone came up with a solution need to find that post. I have a honey do list a freaking mile long will try to get to them today to clean them and go from there.

Again not much of a update Larry and I got the engine done yesterday and got it put in today. Now I can start doing some work.


Things to get done in the next few weeks..

-gas tank mount
-make sidecovers
-make seat and tail section
-make the exhaust

Not much of a update work has been crazy the last 3 weeks looks like I will get some time now to do some work. Been playing around with the body work still trying to figure out what I want to do with that. Here is a couple of pictures of my dads project he has been working on.







Its looking good he is about to do some shake down runs in it and get it ready for some race he is taking it too..

I believe it is a stock motor with racing parts that were available at that time headers,carbs manifold will ask him when I talk to him again..

7 days till the baby is due damn I am so excited....I haven't had much time to work on the bike been building the baby's room it is done now so spent a bit out in the garage on the bike.

I have the seat tail welded to the gas tank and laid the fiberglass. It is about 80 percent done its now the tedious wet sanding and hitting the highs and lows. I sprayed some primer on it today since I was having a hard time seeing the over all look so took some pictures. I have the bottom edge of the tail seat to finish up and the transition from the tank to the seat still needs some work but is getting there. It will be smoothed out and flow better.

The next major project I will be working on is the pipes. I would like to do pipes that are mid high sort of like the old scrambler exhaust and they will run with the flow of the seat tank angled a bit upward. The other project that I am deciding on is if I want to go to a single shock or keep it duel. I have a friend that said he could do it but I really don't know the right way a single shock should go will need to read up on that more.

Thanks knowsnothing I was sitting in the garage working (drinking beer) awhile ago and decided to do a one piece tank and tail probally got the idea from forum member goldarrow from a bike he picked up awhile ago (shakes fist at goldarrow). I have no idea where this one is going just stuff I have around and such.
