Oil Filter 1977 CB750 f2

I thought changing an oil filter would be pretty straight forward but I noticed a clanking noise coming from that area
as I was riding my bike yesterday after I put a new one in.
I thought maybe I put it in wrong, the whole assembly came apart pretty fast so I wasn't sure what order
the pieces go in.
It looks like theres the filter, a spring, and a spacer of some sort. Whats the order this stuff goes in?

From furthest away from your engine, to closest, here it is:

Filter housing bolt with O ring seal
Filter Housing with rubber seal (fcuking big O ring)
Spring
Washer (if you can't find it, it might be in your old oil, or stuck to your old filter)
Filter
Stupid finned spacer thing (Honda calls it an "oil cooler", but that's poetic license, it's also fitted with a fcuking big O ring, which faces the engine)

do you think improper assembly could cause a clanking sound while riding?

and don't forget the spacer that goes inside that big ugly "oil cooler" finned thing. If you forgot to put that back in could be things are rattling around a bit. Not sure what clanking would be though...

Sorry to threadjack: I was changing my oil last night and I have no washer or that collar thing (p/n 15423-333-000). What does the collar do? Evidently I've never had it - wasn't there when I changed the oil after buying the bike 3 years ago. Also, what is the ID & OD of that washer?

I actually rounded off the bolt head on the longer one so for a long time I ran with the standard oil filter housing and didn't have the fugly finned cooler, spacer, etc. with no problems until I got the longer bolt.

You should have saved the bucks and just stuck with plan A mate, that finned heat sink isn't worth the aluminum it's made out of. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yep, but I painted the housing and that fugly finned thing aluminum so I think it looks cool against the black engine - woo hoo!

But I agree, it's pretty worthless...
