I'd prefer to ride conservatively at or below the posted speed limit but my riding buddies hammer the dog out of their bikes and I just try and keep up. Mark looks like a calamari wrestling a two wheeled crab, and Wes can't keep his front wheel on the ground. #3 the both of them. I am pulled begrudgingly up to a two by the peer pressure.

'Squid' is a contraction of "Squirrelly Kid", and comes from So Cal racers who were also involved in the Surfer culture.

Though the term is now widely used to describe street riders of questionable cornering skill, questionable judgement in demonstrations of horsepower and braking, questionable judgement in the protective clothing worn, and very questionable judgement in his/her friends, the meaning was actually developed at the racetrack.

#1 When my wife is riding with me.
#2 When I'm on the bike myself.
#3 Which is only occasionally when I'm riding and my youngest son is on his cbr and or my oldest son is on his 750. I swear one of these days the local police are going to bust us bad.

I pulled a #1 today. The KO got totally pampered, 4 grand and 60 mph for the 50 to 60 miles I rode. It's amazing what a new chain, sprockets, and wheel bearings will do to a bike. Nice real nice! If your sohc needs this and you keep putting it off, do it and believe me you'll be happy you did

usually 4-6K rpm, occasionally gagging the throttle, rev matching downshifts and staying out of the brakes most times because of it. Easy on the clutch, hard on the tires, occasionally grinding centerstand.

well I'm only 21 so I'm not sure if it counts but atleast for the gears i'm in I usually ride the balls out of it. I shift usually above 7 grand except for around traffic then i buzz right in the power band in case a nutjob comes my way. Rev match downshifts and that good stuff

seeing as how I'm not willing to potentially trash the bike yet i'm careful around turns still tho because there is always a lot of gravel/sand on the inside of the turns around me, weird

Mostly #2, 5>6000 on the shift but I will play and take it To The Redline on my rides 'cause she just pulls soooo good !! Don't knee drag because it sits to Low for that and it will drag the footpegs if I lean her to far and I just don't like to look at the road that close

! Don't do any higher rev clutch drops cause of my gearing 17/43 with a 140/90-16 rear tire so I'm set-up for fuel milage not stop light to stop light crotch rocket racing ! ...cougar...

Always start at 1 at least for the first mile or so.Then fall in 2 for a little while and always end in #3. So much fun .Plus the bike don't complain. Only time it hurt when you get caught. 74/550

Back in the day, I was a solid 3 .,

When my 836 was pretty fresh a 3.3

When it was tired, 20 years later..a 3

Then for 3 years I rode a Stocker, with stock pipes and airbox..borrowed bike..with out of province plates.. I rode. 1..most of that time...intended 3 Canadian Winters I rode it, on slippery snowy roads..it was. A solid .2 some days...
So it varies..

I don't ride much these days because I was a dedicated 3 and, after my third near-death experience, came to the realization that if I didn't stay away from it my time on earth was limited. I'd start each season with a pledge to be a number 1, move into a catagory two within a couple of hours of riding, then slip into 3 without even knowing it. "Squid" was a very apt description.

Now that I'm older, once I finish the bike I'm sure I'll have no problems keeping a solid number 1.

...although, there's a real nice set of twisties on the way into work...

The laws have changed around here, riding in the three category, can be very pricey, and they take your bike for a week..

When commuting and in town, I usually stick in the 1-2 category

When I'm out for a joy ride through the back roads, 2-3 for sure. The bikes were meant to be enjoyed for what they are, and thats how I'm going to ride mine. If I blow something up, I'll rebuild the motor...this is the reason I bought an old Honda instead of something else...parts are still around if you do happen to kill it.

Took the 750K6 out today. Just cruised around on the KO yesterday, so I thought today I would twist the throttle a little more. The 6 is right in its element at this speed and rpm range and could easily do quite a bit more, but this is where I feel comfortable taking a 36 year old bike to. Just runs so good here, I believe it could do this all day and not complain

The cops might complain at 25 over the speed limit though

I ride 3 different 650's. 1 of them is always in 3. Always.

There's a road heading west out of Phoenix, towards a town called Wickenberg. Amazing curves. Amazing straights.
Wind it up to red in all gears and hold it in red as long as possible.
Got burned edge of the tires, and scrapes on the pegs to prove it.
@ 105+ I need to get over the tank...front end gets 'light'.

Doesn't hurt this 650 in the least.

I've loaded it up with gear, saddlebags, and taken it on road trips in the 4K mile range.
Nothing done but regular maintenance. (race oil used...or course. Kinda expected you all to know that, since I'm its in Red so often.)
Amsoil 20w-50 or sae60 is my personal choice.

When I get back to Phoenix (where I live in the winter), I'll send some pics of me riding with the sport bike crowd.
