Reusing old tubes
« on: October 23, 2012, 09:18:05 AM »
Yesterday I weather proofed the chicken house with pieces of motorcycle tube. There was a crack between the hatch lid and the wall and this was the perfect fix  It is gonna last forever and it was free.

I also cut straps out of it for clamping glued wood pieces, my air wrench hangs on a bike tube above my work table to be handy...

Do you have creative uses for motorcycle tubes? Lets hear them.

Attaching strips from them to the bottom of a rocking horse so it doesn't scratch the hardwood floors.

Heh, I recently punched out some rubber "washers" to make bushings to mount the VR on my CJ360.

In my first apartment there was an impossible turn on the waste pipe under the sink in the kitchen. I hooked there a piece of tube and it worked for a year.

Along with a 90 degree PVC elbow, it makes a nice air snorkel...

tie it to a tree and 40 pound tess line and use it for cat fishing so they wont break the line it just pulls, and tires the 40 pound plus big ones out.

Back in the day we would always cut them about 3/4 inches wide and had our tools banded  on our enduros , strongest rubber bands you could get, put the tool in the hole ,wrap the band around a fork, handle bar or frame , and put the other end of the tool through the open end of the band. You could ride the hell out of that machine and that tool would be there when you needed it.This was before bungie straps, I still cut my tubes.
Some times I need to pressurize something like say when draining a hot water heater ,the pressure is gone and it' taking all freakin day to gravity drain. So you've saved the air valve from a tube with 3 inches of rubber around it, Open the pressure relief valve, hose clamp on the air valve , shoot in just enough air to get a good steady stream of water from the drain cock , add air as needed, and you're off to lunch before you can say Bob's your uncle.

Just used a tube on my truck, gas tank hangers rotted away, replaced them with wider universal ss straps, tubes were used between the new straps and tank.works great.
