Trans problem please help
«

I have a 76 CB550k. Noticed a Clunking noise from the trans mostly at takeoff and sometimes when I'm really riding hard, it goes into a false neutral. Any ideas of what is causing this?

False neutrals are pretty common with these bikes if you don't shift properly, if you just click the shifter you will get a false neutral nearly everytime. You need to place a little weight on the shifter then pull the clutch and click it through, if you do this it will go through correctly everytime
. The clunking noise is most likely a loose drive chain or primary chain. Check the tension of your drive chain if that is ok, drop the pan and check your primary chain.

make sure the shift lever is tight on the shaft aswell, not floppy, sort of pre load the shifter,it helps to blip the throttle on down shifts on these,,its not just done for pose value!

Sometimes when I'm down shifting and I pull the clutch in and hit the throttle the clunk noise appears.

Sounds like your primary chain is worn, IIRC it is a common issue with the 550's.

About 300 miles ago. The bike only has 11k on it. 4k was put on it this year. The bike was put on the road this year after sitting for 10 years. Just trying to figure it out for next year since the riding season is pretty much over for this year.
