Hi all.
This is my first restoration so I'm open to all suggestions. I'll give you a little backround on the bike. I'm in central MN and this bike was the window display model in 1972 at Kokish Sports, a motorcycle accessory shop. My friends dad bought it from the owner. It has just over 14,000 miles on it. My friend got it after his dad passed away. I helped him get it running but I kept reminding him that I had dibs if he ever decided to sell it. When he and his wife bought new bikes he sold it to me for $350. The bells and whistles include; custom seat, saddle bags and trunk, fairing, crash bars, chrome engine covers, lowering kit and floor boards with heel toe shift.
The carbs would plug up for my friend and when I got it I checked the tank and saw some rust spots. I coated the inside of the tank but still had the same problem. I set the tank on the workbench ran new gas lines with fuel filters and still the same thing, some grit in the carb bowls that plugs up the jets. So the next step was to remove the carbs and clean them and get new gaskets. That's where I'm at now. While the carbs are off I'm doing some cleaning on the back side of the engine. I want to get it running good before I do a lot of polishing. It did start and run great until a carb would plug up. I do have a new/used set of mufflers to replace the rusty ones.
I'll add more posts and pictures as I progress.
