inline fuel filters can you take them apart?
« on: July 09, 2006, 10:30:30 AM »
Can inline fuel filters be taken apart, or do you just have to buy a new one? i have alot of junk in my inline fuel filter, all up against the filter, and am wondering if i can take it apart where the filter is, im wondering if that area comes apart or not so i can clean that out or do you just have to buy a new one? i know they are cheap its that the MC shops are closed today, and just always wondered if you can take them apart anyway.

All the in-line filters I've seen can't be taken apart. I guess if it were me, I would look at the tank's condition as the source of what you are seeing in the filter and take care of that first. The filters are more your last defense.

i just cleaned the tank out yesterday, drained the float bowls, replaced the plugs, checked the points, blew out the slow jets....it still has the same problem and im losing my mind....basically it runs like crap like its fuel starved, drain the float bowls and the problem goes away, will run fine for a day, let it sit overnight same problem, drain the float bowls it runs great then again and again. I looked at the inline fuel filter and its clogged up with rust from my last tank...im hoping that its so clogged that gas is not getting past the filter, or getting past it in small amounts, if its not that i will literally loose my mind....why would draining the float bowls make the symptoms go away?

The only thing I can think of is float height...

That, and maybe check for sticking float valves.

I use lawnmower inline filters, never more than a buck and a half at Autozone.  They're open Sundays, too.

I have had a slight version of your problem after using Sea Foam in my tank. New filter cured it. The filter didn't look clogged up but had a copper/rust color to it. I got a replacement from a local shop that had a 90 degree output line that fit better then my last straight filter

Does it matter which line off the petcock goes to which carb? I took them off and forgot which fuel line went to what carb, petcock has two lines coming from it.
