Post up your Craigslist Score thread
« on: November 30, 2012, 05:24:46 AM »
Post up your Craigslist (or local Penny Trader) finds and scores. It doesn't have to be bike related, either.

Last year, I found this 550 engine, carbs and a box of spares for $125.

I've also found a titled frame for cheap and, more recently, a pile of CB650 stuff for an upcoming engine swap.

Got all this for $50 in Sept.  Ended up getting the carbs thrown in also.

I scored these Lesters (true 18" CB500/550 rear) off CL for about $350 a while back...it was actually another member selling them.

I also scored this complete little CA95 'Baby Dream' for $800 delivered to my door.  Even came with the original black plate, and old registration card so I could keep it.

Two biggest scores that come to mind are my '74 CB550 and my 4x6 utility trailer.
$400 for the bike and $250 for the trailer.  Separate transactions but right around the same time two years ago.  I refer to the trailer as my $250 pickup truck.  I don't know how I survived without it.

My name is Jay and I am a Craigslist addict.

The original CL post pics.

Bringing home the CB on the trailer.

Several years ago i responded to an add that the title said something to the affect of "Old motorcycles and parts". I think i was the first responder and glad i was because for $600 i got:

- 79 KZ1000 (as i was parting it out I found it had a Z1 crank [$200], mikuni smooth bores [$500], extended swingarm [200])
- 76 Z1
- 2 - 75 KZ650's
- 3 Z1 engines
- 1 GPZ engine (holy crap!)
- a 6x8 wooden crate containing more misc parts than I could imagine that included another set of mikuni smoothbores

Parted it all out since there were no titles to the tune of around $6k...after I had fun with that KZ1000 :-D

I think if GreenJeans finds this thread, we'll all be topped.  I think he found that Sandcast for like $500 :o and then sold it for like $10k :o :o

Scott what is the frame that the 550 engine was sitting in?

That was a CB750 frame. The seller claimed he swapped 550 engines into 750 frames for racing. I dunno....
Frame is long gone. Gave it away (no title).

That's a good deal, but I recently scored a pair of 18"/19" Lesters on ebay for $29 each, plus shipping! :))
I have barely over $100 in the pair!

Another ebay score: Henry Abes for $250. I caught the auction just after listing and asked the seller if he had a buy-it-now price in mind. He did and now they're mine!

Yeah, I've seen some of the good deals you've found.  What was the hub number in that rear Lester?

A couple of years ago i bought a 74 cb750 chopper with a extra engine 2 sets of wheels and 4 boxes of stuff the guy wanted 650 for all of it I was on my 1997 be passat I told him I'd take it but I needed a minute to take it apart so I could get it in the car he said he didn't have the time I told 5 minutes then he told me if I could tear it down and get all of it in the car he'd knock off 250 dollars after 3 minutes he realized he f***ed up got it all in there and had to drive 250 miles home. My buddy couldn't stop laughing at the guy.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"
