After a few soft K's on gas, I'll throw the Mikholley carb on, fuel in & try my best to blow it up, before nominating by 15th jan ,If it does "pop" I ony have to buy beer to go to the salt and save $375  ::)

Tell me about the gauge package on top of that bike, what is it reading? I assume it is just a set up tool?

Yeah, EGT x 4 (one for each pot) a gear position indicator, O2 gauge to monitor the average mixture.
The plan is to setup on a "private" road before leaving for the salt, I also plan on keeping an eye on things while doing a run, with the main focus being getting past the timers, and get a feel how long it will take to get to top speed, as there will be a 3 mile course (1 mine run up, 1 timed mile, and a mile for pulling up) & the usual course, the shortest section having a 2 mile run up, timed 1/4, mile 2/3 , then off @ the four.
I didn't make it past mile one last time  :o

Well it looked pretty bloody impressive before it went BANG Tiny! What caused that? Lean mixture? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeah Terry, during the initial carb(s) setup, I "tuned by feel" (and my 'ol increase petrol jets by 2,2+ a bit for safety  method) I had no forced induction experience and should have known better ?
Well, that didn't work, but it was close, felt great until I hit 6th, then it nosed over, so I cut it, and cruised back to where the car was parked.
I had melted an earth strap off #4 Iridium plug, but the engine passed the "thumb in plug hole and crank it over test,,,,,,,,  In hindsight, I think I had a developing crater in #4 piston (that was with a 550 main)
Further test rides were better, with 580 main being almost right, so I went the safe way and upped the main to 600,,DAMN that was a GOOD run !
Saltside I ran with a 640 main, the bike didn't like it much, didn't clear until I hit 4th, so it wasn't lean, I think it was just too much for the weakened piston to handle ?
With the new gauges, I'll know when I'm getting near the scarey zone and ride accordingly, until the last run, then I'll not look at any damn gauges, just tuck'n'go

Best of Luck Tiny, I'm a member of the DLRA, but I've never been to Lake Gairdner, I must get off my arse and go check it out! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Best I stop polluting Johnno's thread,,,,,,
As mentioned, the 250 decided it was scared, and refused to run after reducing the blower gearing, after retracing my steps, which included removing the clutch, who's gear is #2 in a set of 6 driving the cams, and no, I didn't "slip" a tooth, and no, the bov wasn't stuck open, the carb wasn't dirty(3 cleans in 2 days saw to that) and no 2&3 coil wasn't the culprit, nor was voltage drop while cranking, this and pulling the plugs (new)to check for spark, of which there was adequate when earthed and hanging from the leads.
But,,,,when putting the "old" plugs back in (1/2 hr job to pull & replace the  plugs, and it happened 5 times),,
IT RUNS !  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
Bloody NGK's

Iv'e created an electrical problem now (smoke) when removing the BOV and it's bits, as the battery box and main junction point for the wiring has to come off 1st.

The Lake is under water at the moment, this mind altering stress may be all in vain ?

My electrical smoke wasn't,,,it was just crankcase fumes trapped by a rag , phew,,,,,,,
It seems due to ALL my carb tuning was done with a poorly vented fuel tank, I have to start again, using last years jetting as a starting point  ::)

I'm gonna take up knitting next, and cutting out paper dolls  :(

Well, after going back to a Q6 needle jet, dropping the pilot to #60, from #70 throwing another set of new plugs in, it started reasonably easily, considering it's only 60 degrees in the shed, I warmed 'till the condensation stopped in the exhaust, and fitted the O2 sensor, and restarted, O2 level was 7 (lean) and hesitated when blipping throttle.
In went a #65 pilot, and I bit the bullet and put the Drilled needle jet (#32)back in (the one that seemed too rich)
Bugga me if it RUNS GOOD AGAIN !
Guess what the only thing that changed BEFORE all this crappy running bagan ?
BLOODY NEW SPARK PLUGS WERE PUT IN !
They were crook from new, although they tested ok hanging off the leads, earthed, as soon as the pressure in the cylinders raised, they went stupid, apparently  ::)
Thet the 2nd time in 40 years I've bought crook spark plugs
The last new plugs that went in today are ok,,,,,,,

They weren't Iridiums were they mate? I've got a set of NGK Iridiums here and the only bike they'll work in is my Goldwing. Weird......... ;D

That sounded nice and clean Tim, it's a pity you'll need water wings at Lake Gairdner at the moment! ;D

Terry, they weren't iridiums mate, although today, they are.
It was filthy rich @ 1/3rd throttle, and still lean (7/1) on main, although it didn't lean out any more when held there, so the flow problem is fixed.
Iv'e dropped the needle and upped the main from 640 to 680 for todays test.
I have the full range of needle jets and a set of number drills, so anythings possible.

THE LAKE IS DRY  (apart from a bit of water out on the track, which has yet to be surveyed, so can be shifted if needed)

When is "Speed Week" Tim? My cuz and I have been promising to go for years, I built a twin engined push bike to do a land speed record attempt and we both joined the DLRA, but when my cuz had multiple family issues, he lost interest and the bike is still waiting at his place. I really must get it sorted, it was a fun project and I'd love to ride it on the salt. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ha ha, I didn't think so either, but we thought we might take my Triumph Rocket III or my 836 and see how fast it'd go, and take the bicycle out when no one was looking?

Next weekend won't work for us though, so maybe next year....... All the best with your attempt Tim, if it goes as well as it was in the vid, you should come back with a new record! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I won't be racing this year now,,fried brains, strained relationship, and 7/1 A/F @ 3/4 + throttle has seen to that.
Make it a date next year Terry, and I'll have a drink with you after I hit 130  :D ;D :D

Ha ha, no worries mate, I might even build a proper salt flat racing CB750 for the occasion! Cheers, Terry. ;D
