The problem with replacing a spoke without removing the tire is the length of the replacement spoke.

Once the replacement spoke is seated in the hole in the wheel hub it's going to be too long down at the wheel rim end to get started on the spoke nut. The nut would have to be pushed deep down into the wheel rim. I'm replacing all my spokes the normal way now and just don't see how one spoke could be replaced without removing the tire and tube.

Even with the tire and tube off it may be necessary to bend the replacement spoke a little to get it to go into the rim spoke hole. All of your other spokes are going to be tightened thus holding the rim and hub in a stiff relationship which causes the problem.

I believe they're still an oem part, thus can be ordered from the dealer. There are also the 3-4 spoke kits that show up on eBay often. Interesting fact on spokes that I learned recently; thread pitch is different from buchannan's, those Bangkok spokes on eBay, and oem.

I've got a complete set just removed from the 19" front wheel on my 1974 750. They were replaced with a new set purchased from cb750.com

They're not rusted and clean up pretty well on a wire wheel or some other way of polishing. I'll send you a couple with spoke nuts if you can PM me. I'll need to know if you require the inside spoke or the outside spoke.

The "outside" spoke has a longer hook then the inside spoke. Also the "outside" spoke has a greater than 90* bend at the top of the spoke while the inside spoke has less than a 90* bend.

What is that black thing? I would take and cut it at both ends if you are still riding it. Don't want that flying off at speed :o Not the best idea but with that said I have been missing one on the rear for 6000 miles not over 65mph and don't even notice a out of balance :o. Santa gave me a gift certificate today for a new set. Plus sprockets chain brakes bearings tire tube the works yea Santa ;D ;D

Fix it as soon as you can.

Hey Neil, just saw the pic after sending a reply to your PM.

That's the "outside" spoke for sure. BTW, I just finished drilling my brake rotor and I'd swear the pattern I used is identical to the pattern on your bike. I think my holes may be slightly smaller. Looks nice!

I'm pretty sure I have some OEM 19" spokes. Let me know if you want one. Assuming you can get the spoke threaded through the rim and into the nipple, you could let the air out of the tube, break the bead and scooch everything over to see if you have any dangerous protrusion. Then you'd know if the tire needed to come off.

Neil, I dropped two outside spokes with spoke nuts attached off at the post office today about 3:00. You should have them in a couple days.
