A small write up/pics of a brat seat

First off not mine but x/posting from reddit

The pan is 16g steel that I formed with an angle grinder, c-clamps, and a hammer. My friend tacked the corners in the front, that I also made.

The foam is closed cell foam I bought from a local kayak supply store.

I glued the foam to the pan, then used rivets to attach the fabric to the pan. I think it will probably stretch over time, because I didn't think to use grommets in the fabric.

I'm very happy with how it turned out considering I've never done anything with fabric before, aside from sewing patches, haha. Its comfortable as well. The closed cell foam does a good job dampening vibrations and bumps, and the 1/4" of soft foam in the pleats of the fabric give it a softer initial feel.

Investment: $10 metal, $20 fabric, $8 foam, ~$10 rivets and adhesive

Likely pop rivets, they are cheap and easy to use.

Does the horse on the back mean you picked up one additional horsepower? Goes faster??

Not mine, I just thought the guys over here would appreciate it. I plan on doing one similar with a bit thicker pad. A true seat should have multiple layers of differing density, though really for true ergonomics it should have tuned to have the densest material align with your sitz bones taking the most pressure.

Anybody got a good method for bending some of this to match a hoop without a metal break or roller?

2x4 and 2 c-clamps would do.

nice, i like it alot.
couple questions,

whats the proper name for the clips in the middle holding it on/ where can i get some?

what kind of foam is that/where did you pick it up?

was the top a material that you got pre hatch stitched or did you do/have some do the pattern?

is that just an oil line you did around the metal edge?

The clips are called "tool clips". I ordered mine online, but hardware stores may have them.

The foam is one of those closed-cell sleeping mats, cut into sections and laminated with 3M 77 spray.  It's firm! You might want to add a softer layer on top.

The marine vinyl cover was sewn by a friend with and industrial sewing machine.  She made the seat cover in my signature too.

The edge is oil line that has been slit on one side.  Taped in place.
