Not really any negatives about my 77 Wing. Great bikes, but their is nothing perfect and their is one thing that annoys me a little bit and I here it's common with these older Wings and even can happen with the newer models also because of the engine design. Some smoke at start up after being parked on side stand. Putting bike on center stand pretty much eliminates this all together, but just dont want to put bike on center stand at every stop. What do you other Wing owners do?

My GL1200 doesn't do that Dwight, but I know what you're talking about, my old BMW "K" series bikes puffed a little smoke when parked on their sidestands when the engines were up to operating temp. Cheers, Terry.

Sometimes its very little Terry and hardly noticeable but other times it a little worse, but clears up completely once on the road. Gone just about 1000 miles since getting her on the road and oil level is still full. Again only does this when bike is parked leaning over on the side stand.

Yeah, it's not a biggie Dwight, my first BMW K100RT with 60,000 miles used to blow a cloud of smoke if I parked it on it's sidestand, but the GL1200 doesn't blow any at all. Cheers, Terry.

its normal. All mine do it at one time or another. I keep them all on the center stand.

When you first shut it off, let it sit upright for a second while the oil drains down to the sump. Take off your helmet, gloves.... THEN put it over. Helps tremendously.

I never thought of that. Good tip.
I have had them on the center stand then on the side stand for long time and never noticed smoke. or very,very little.

As far as the video of Wings on the Dragon, I didn't say you couldn't ride one there. if the bike can change direction than it can be ridden on The Dragon. But just because you CAN ride it there doesn't mean it's a good fit.

My wife and I did the Dragon 2-up last year. It was not easy. The gremlin bell would ring when I was just about to scrape - wish I had one on the other side!

This guy rides like the devil is on his 6.
The guy on the camera bike is a really good rider, but this full-dress 1800 is insane.....
Remember this a bike with a reverse gear, it's such a behemoth.

As amazing as that vid is, the new Goldwings have actually got more ground clearance and handle way better than our earlier 'Wang's.

We've got some roads around here that are at least as windy as the one in the vid and I chased my mate John on his 1800 'Wang through them on my Triumph Rocket III, and while his Honda doesn't have the grunt of my Triumph's 2300cc's, the Triumph's footboards scraped well before anything on John's big blue 1800. So what is it Stev-o that you don't like about GW's, the look, styling, etc. Im not that big of a fan of the loaded down ones old or new models, but the bare, naked ones I like.

I don't think Steve has a problem with the mechanicals Dwight, he's just not keen on the look of any 'Wang, regardless of year and model. But then again, he's got a soft spot for fugly K7's and K8's, and even the occasional "F", so he's obviously had a head injury sometime in his life........

Oh, Uncle Terry, you crack me up! I have been in a couple bike accidents but no head injury. BTW - I bought another K7, now I have two!

Two of my best friends [brothers] have had Goldwings for years, I just never cared for the "loaded down ones". I just have no desire to have a big heavy bike, my Z1 900 is as big as it gets. I do 0 interstate riding, so have no use for a cruiser.

I do like the look of your bike but wont be buying one. No offense intended.

Even though you don't want a Wang like I got I wouldn't mind having a Z1 like you got;D

Not working today and I know I haven't been riding the 750's much since getting the Wing on the road but I jumped on the GL1000 this morning and took off. No particular direction or place I wanted to go just felt like riding a little bit and just got back in. Ended up at Pilot Mountain about a 150 mile round trip from the house. The Wang ran great!!

The "tank" is just a cover. So it could be removed without too much trouble I would guess.
