Zfan's '79 CB 400 T2 Build!!
« on: March 24, 2013, 06:28:50 PM »
Hey guys, I go and pick up my 79 Honda CB400 T2, Tuesday and have done some research and have found quite an amazing amount of information about the bike itself. I have done some builds before but nothing with bikes so I thought I would try my hand at a motorcycle!

A little information on myself, I'm 21 years old, certified body worker and painter. Have some background in custom builds. I have built a show car and sold that to buy my most recent purchase, 2004 350Z, note the name!

I plan on building a cafe racer out of this bike, a little info on the bike. It does run! So that's a great start, to my understanding, does need some love because it dies when the choke is turned off but a buddy of mine said that the carbs just need cleaned. Other than that the bike is in AMAZING shape.

-no rust!!!
-brand new tires
-new plugs and battery
-still has factory battery and side plastics
-no rust in the tank either

Purchase price (come Tuesday) - $700 dollars
So it should be a great platform to build off of. I do have some questions though.

- I don't know the size (mm wise) to get for my handlebars. I did research but could not find the sizing.
- Will a Giulerri Style Seat I found on a cafe build site for a CB750 fit my 400.
- is there any way to hide/tuck or organize the throttle cables upfront for a cleaner look?

So far that's all the questions I have. I am sure more will arise.

Project hopes:
- cafe seat
- rear sets
- repainted frame and tank
- polish and paint motor
- relocate the battery
- bore motor to a 450~ (new piston & top end)
- clubman bars
- new headlight with integrated speedo
- and some misc stuff that will probably arise.

I will post some pics of it when I get it home Tuesday!

Thanks for the read and prepare for a hopefully amazing build. A lot in mind and a lot in store!

Also I have been told I will need to get new forks for my motorcycle to make it more of a Cafe Racer instead of a Cruiser. Any idea if this is true, because it seems like the forks (front tire) stick out a little to far to be a cafe racer so I see what he is talking about but where can I find new forks to make it tuck in a little bit or if anyone has any information on this that would be amazing!

Thanks for the help!
