Gorgeous bike tt, I'd be lusting over that as well if I knew where it was.

It's as new. $9500 cash didn't buy it.

Pretty sure that's an aftermarket chain guard, the original (at least on a 73) was pretty huge and flared out to keep things clean.
My sister had a 73 Z1B until 5~6 yrs ago, I'll see if I an find any pics

Stevo, try these guys too: http://www.redlinecycle.com/ they are located a few miles from me and while they work on all models they specialize in the K1/KZ900/KZ1000

Thanks Danny, will check them out.

Dam - the hole above the ignition is labeled "key holder". If you have more than one key on the ring you insert in there so it doesn't scratch the idiot lights?
Good question for the Z forum, which is pretty lame I might add.

It's crazy what these bikes appear to sell for on eBay, up to $20K if correct.
Doesn't your buddy have one?

Stev-o...I was wondering about the similarities between the K's and the Kaw's. The dash and idiot lights look similar. Will be interesting to see if those carbs are really much different. Exhaust looks similar except that each half is a unit. I take it the Kaw's are as reliable as the K's? I would not be hesitant to try something different like a Kaw restore. Looks like a fun project...

Many, many things are very similar. Lore has it Kaw was working on a 4 cyl 750 in the late 60's but Honda beat them to the punch. So they went back to the board and came out with the Z in late '72. And of course had to outdo them by making it a 900....and faster!
My '78 Kaw 1000 was fantastic, never an issue, I can only hope this one will be as reliable as my K4 or 550. You should get one!

Yes, think your right, chain guard is aftermarket and will go, eventually. Want to restore this one correct, but not "crazy correct" as in NOS only. No cheap China aftermarket parts though!

Mine is a Z1B ('75), a '73 would be just Z1 and the '74 is a Z1A, they were only made 3 years.
Would love to see pics..

Go for it Mick!

On a side note, I just ordered $300 in parts. Seat, bars, controls and some hardware to clean up the front. Asked about the exhaust, they have it on stock, tempted but didn't order yet as it's $1360 shipped. Next...

Never been much of a Kawasaki fan.
I know there were only 39 of the originals brought into Britain. First ones had all black engine and gold/black paint.
My sisters was second year, green/gold but different pattern to the later one
